Another question for engine builders.

Today I started my engine rebuild and I measured the oil clearance with plastigage. I was over on all the specs from what they should be. So my question is if I am .016 over on the connecting rod bearings do I have to split that number when ordering replacement bearings?

What is the actual measurement you got?
Are you over the service limit by .016mm?

The spec (based on my Haynes manual, because my Honda manual is in the Toy Box and there is a foot of snow) is .032mm to .050mm, with the service limit of .060mm.

Over many years and many engines I have seldom used plastigage as consistent measurements are hard to achieve. I usually measure the crank pin with a micrometer and measure the assembled (with a new bearing and torqued to spec) connecting rod using a snap gauge and a micrometer. The crank pin OD subtracted from the connecting rod ID gives you the oil clearance.

Yea it is over the service limit by .016 that is for both of the connecting rod bearings.
the Rt main bearing is over the service limit by .003 and the Lt is over by .030
All dimensions are in mm.
