Air box modification
 

Received the Dr. Honda prescription (New Velocity Stakes). After installation of the stakes, and re-installing the BMC filter- Then the top of the air box-
Has any of the"ELDERS of KNOWLEDGE" considered a restriction of air thru the snorkle into the air box? And if so what is the changes?

Yeah... Don't play around with it unless you wan't a big headache... There are numerous threads on people trying and failing...

I have made a very small mod to mine... It works, but my guess only in conjection with other mods... Again, my suggestion... You have more to loose than to gain...

OH thank you master "ELDER OF KNOWLEDGE" .. - why waste water where plants need not be planted..
one more question about the air box- There is a strap/ or brace across the inside top of air box(2 screws and plastic strap) What is it for, and what does it do?

Well... I'm no fricking elder, so if you want information, try the other way...

The strap holds the thin plastic flap on the OEM filter, and that's for directing the airflow... On the OEM filter some gain can be made by removing the flap and brace, on K&N filters adding one in creates some gains...

What I did was remove the divider in the snorkle and smoothed the creases going in the snorkle...

That is what holds The lip of the air filter in place.

So with the BMC filter, remove the inner strap is OK? Does removing the divider in the snorkle present a preformance increase?

I do think it's pretty funny that you get to page 3 and the guy gives up because it didn't work...... ;)

On my engine it did... But my engine is not stock... And so far 99% of all attempts I have seen to increase performance on a stock or close to stock engine by icreasing airflow has produced two distinct results...

1. Complete and utter failure...

2. Questionable results, ie gain 2 bhp at the top, loose 3 at the bottom or similar...

I'd keep all mods reversible...

Spend your time in the saddle.

Spend your money on tires and gas.

Protective gear should be at the top of the list.

I should also add that the above advice is not helpful in all cases. If you find that you have time and money left over, let the modifications begin.

Suspension first - airbox last and least.

You need to lube the chain? Lord, I thought this thing was a shaft drive! ;)

People start mods anywhere. Probably best to fix the CCT and reg / rec, then move over to ss lines, good rubber and a corbin / sargent seat, depending on what sort of riding you do. (A lot of the suspension stuff might end up being for not if he decides to do a front-end swap or F4 shock.) Air box and exhaust are on the list, though. It sort of depends on whether you want to go fast or hug the corners. Let's treat this like a legitimate option. There are diminishing returns on some mods, of course...
