Aftermarket Hiflo air filter does not fit
I purchased an aftermarket Hiflo HFA 1909. The application guide says it fits all Hawks. I tried to install it but it would not fit in the recesses around the perimeter of the lower or upper airbox. Close enough that is is for this bike but I just could not force it in the groove all the way around, it was just a little too small even if I were to leave it in the sun. Has any one else experienced this or had had luck w/other brands?

I have used hi flow many times and never had a problem. Maybe the filter is faulty, or the wrong one is in the box . I always mod mine by cutting the baffle plate off. |
Is the original honda filter a cleanable one or throw away?

Give it a blow with an air hose to tide you over tilll you get a correctly new un. But no they aren't washable like K&N - and no I don't recommend a K&N even though I've got one fitted and haven't had to buy a new filter for over 60,000 miles :-)

I recently received the Hiflofiltro as well. The filter I got fit somewhat ok into the airbox but the lid didn't fit like OEM. I dremeled down a small section until I got the lid to fit. This will get me by for a while but next filter I'll buy OEM again.

I've recently experienced the same issue. I had to do some serious wrestling to get it in there. Best advice I can give is to spray the perimeter with silicone and warm the airbox and filter edge a little with a heat gun or hair dryer. Then mine was able to be forced into place.
It will be the last HiFlo air filter I will ever buy. On a side note, my boss (at the motorcycle shop where I work) bought one for his Blackbird. I installed it last week and it fit no problem. |
I have used Hi-Flo for many years on all of my personal bikes as well as hundreds of customer bikes. They normally work without issue, though the quality is a bit off sometimes, so I would say that it is quite possible you have a factory error, or a mis-packaged filter. I'd try another one and return the old one.

I called the company that makes or maybe distributes the Hiflo filters and they want me to take pics, no problem. The company I bought it from sent me a return label and I ordered an Emgo, I'll see how that works.

Hard to see with a picture. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.sup...8bc1e83342.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.sup...83abbae76c.jpg I have a LOT of experience using HiFlo products. I reached out to HiFlo on social media and got no reply. |
I never got the chance to take a pic of the Hiflo. I got the Emgo to my door very quickly and stuck it in to see if it fit and it was perfect. I installed the upper airbox to check that as well and inst. screws when I realized I forgot to snap a few of the Hiflo, just did not feel like taking it apart. My situation looked very similar to the pics Wolverine took. Installed new plugs and she runs just as good as before, mission accomplished.
