98' SH...won't start?

Just picked this bike up about 2 months back.
Had to put a new fuel petcock diaphram on right away.
Just now went to start her up....cranks over but does'nt start.
Battery at static 12.76.
she ran fine yesterday.....so I feel compression is fine.
Spark?

Just trying to get an idea of possible issues.....before I tow her in to the shop.

Thanks!

Been messing with the petcock?

Could it be PVLIR? The little vacuum line that attaches to the petcock should be on the rear nipple that points sideways, not the lower one that points down.

Starter relay? Mine gave out randomly, had something loose inside when I shook it compared to a new replacement

I had a shop do the new petcock install
Haven't changed anything.

I'll have to look into the starter relay.
I bet it's the original!!

Thanks

We've all done it...is the kill switch on the right bar in the run position?

Are you saying the bike cranks over fine but won't fire?

Yeah....I've done the kill switch on....on all my previous bikes!!

Yes, bike cranks over...sounds normal but won't fire up.
Lights etc all seem fine.
Could it still be main fuse, or starter relay?

A shop did the petcock, returned it to you, it wont run?

Did you mention this little detail to the shop? Seems like they may have something to do with it.

Have you sprayed starting fluid into the air intake while trying to start it? That would be the first and easiest step.

The petcock was done about 3 weeks ago & has been running fine....till today.

Yeah, I'll try the starter spray tomorrow.

What have you done between it running and then not starting?

Nothing.
Monday I rode the bike to the office,,,,came home and covered her up.
She sat out Tuesday, I played golf.
Yesterday I went out to start her......she cranks, but won't start.
After I finish my morning coffee, I am going to check main fuse.

Ok....tried to start her up....cranking same as yesterday,
Took tail fairing off: checked battery connection, looked at rectifier (ok)
Starter relay looked fine...pulled the fuse out(good). Put it back together.
Then....she started right up!!!?
I hate intermittent issues.

A couple other things that can prevent it from starting:

Kickstand switch
Clutch switch

Do make sure the petcock vacuum line is connected to the angled connection on the BACK of the petcock, not the vertical connection on the bottom of the petcock - even the shop (especially the shop?) could have fouled that up.

I believe there are two types of RR, a shunt (old style) or MOSFET (new style). AFAIK the shunt types use a prefix SH... and the MOSFET use FH...

I will look again when I'm under there.
All I remember as far labeling:

E-003 was printed on the up side.

It is definitely not stock or original.
It is only using one of the mounting holes.
