VTR from Milton, Ontario

After reading this age poll earlier, I feel much better to start posting, knowing that I am not the only middle-aged member here

50yo, been riding back in late 70's and early 80's, then took a looong break for kids, career, mortgage, yadda, yadda... started riding again 3 years ago. Got an old Bandit from a friend, just to get me back on the road. Didn't really know which way to go with my next bike: cruiser seemed to be appropriate for my age but I didn't find one that I liked, adventure looked very practical but I knew I will probably never go off-road, it's simply not my thing, anything sportier was out of question since I wasn't sure how my back and wrists would respond. A new(er) Bandit looked as a logical next step... untill I stumbled upon this blue/green 2000 VTR, that seemed to be in mint condition with 24,000km (15,000miles) on the clock. After a short test ride I decided what a heck, I should be riding something like this while my back is still OK. Cruisers can wait

So, here it is: my new to me, 2000 VTR. All stock, except for the hacked off rear fender and drilled out exhaust silencers. I wish that the previous owner left both intact, but with the deal I got, I really shouldn't complain. Will have to figure out how to silence my exhaust or I'll be waking up my entire neighbourhood when leaving for work at 7:30am...

Haven't had a chance for a longer trip yet, but took some short local 30-50km rides. Man, I love this v-twin. And seating position is not that bad - much better than the SVS I tried.

Looking forward to enjoying my Firestorm and hanging around with this fine group of VTR enthusiast.

All the best.

unique colour

Thanks chickenstrip.
Yeah, never saw one in this colour before. But, now that I have it, they're just popping up all over the place. It seems that Canadian models for 2000 were mostly in this colour.

Hey there mikstr, impressive signature! We'll see, I am not there yet
For now just enjoying that torque on demand at any speed and in any gear. Unbelievable!
And I guess I have to check those CCTs and R/R everyone is talking about.

Hi dannyz,
Over here west of Port Perry.
I just did the CCTs on the weekend.
Plus a bunch of other mods.
After reading all the great mod info. from this site.
It didn't seem that hard.
Scratched my head a couple times!!
I even had both valve covers off.
Should of went the extra step with valve clearance checks.

Welcome, I'm in Bowmanville. I think we need a southern Ontario ride day.

Well, it - hopefully - happened today. GTAM member called for a meeting today at 1:30 in west Mississauga, riding Peel/Milton area. Unfortunatelly, I was not able to join this time but hope to meet in the future...
