VEMAR VSR Helmets FS on ebay/web for $100-110 shipped

Reported Good: US DOT & ECE-22.05 (MotoGP) approved; not Snell rated (an advantage in the post-Motorcyclist helmet article era); flows lots of air; light weight; high quality; extra-large eyeport; anti-fog treatment; chrome paint.

Reported Bad: noisy; transmits almost 15% more energy to the wearer’s head than the best according to the Motorcyclist helmet article (174 vs 152 avg G’s) (if my math is correct, 179G’s was avg in the Motorcyclist helmet article); looks like this inventory was manufactured at the end of 2003 &/or 2004; replacement visor’s are expensive ($52 fr http://stores.sportbiketrackgear.com/, but antifog); I’m not sure, but it appears that Vemar might be leaving the US market (hence the discount).

I was going to buy one of those not too long ago but they don't have any for my tiny head.....or the small one on my shoulders either. Super light though.

 

I recently bought one. I normally wear an XL Arai Quantum, and this thing is a little tight. It hurts my ears, but has since broken in more. I still won't use it for all day rides, but for 2-3 hours its good.

The helmet is light! I can really feel the difference on my head. The shields are indeed antifog, and the helmet flow good air. The shield change system is a good design, and the graphics look good. It is quiter than my Arai too, although that could be the tighter fit.

The only real complaint I have is a slight visual distortion in the sheild. It isn't much, and it isn't bad, but I do notice it every once and a while. This helmet also seems to pick up way more bugs than my Arai.

Hell for $109 shipped, but it just to look at!

The guy at sportbiketrackgear.com is a really freindly person, and willing to help you out as much as he can. My experince dealing with him was very positive.

 

The Vemar VSR is a ~$500 MSRP helmet selling for $110 shipped; I thought more people would be excited over it. I’m glad someone else got one as well.

I think the sizing runs on the small size and/or the internal shape of the helmet is different than my old HJC. I was comfortable in a large HJC, but had to go up to a size XL in the Vemar. I specifically went up in size because the L size Vemar flipped down my ears and was otherwise tight side to side. I think the helmet fits fine in the XL size on me. A co-worker also tried on the L and XL sizes and despite previously being happy with L, bought a XL.

The Vemar VSR has front to back channels molded into the liner that allow lots of cooling air to flow. See pics at <http://www.motorcyclistonline.com/gearbox/motorcycle_helmet_review/photo_02.html>. I have a hard time imaging any safe motorcycle helmet flowing more air than the Vemar.

At high speeds, the Vemar stays put on my head better than my old HJC when the vents are open. I think its partially due to the much better airflow throught the helmet. When I close the shield and vents on the Vemar, I notice more movement (not necessarily a lot of movement, but more) of the helmet on my head than when the vents are open. When the vents are closed, I think the movement on my head is similar to my old helmet. This is dispite moving up a size compared to my old helmet.

After living with this helmet for a while now, I think earplugs are mandatory for freeway driving. This helmet is noisier than my HJC or Bieffe with odd whistling or air rushing sounds.

I'd definitely recommend this helmet to those that ride in a warm or hot environments and use earplugs on road trips.
