I ran across this!

I looked at the Icons and they are ok but I question the higher price for less protection. The Aramid stuff looks alright they just don't have enough of it in the right places. While looking around for alternatives I ran across these. Sounds similar to draggin jeans with kevlar in the same locations and the price is really good. Might be worth a try.

Your right the icons were a little pricey but AFTER i found and bought them from chapparel i saw the on metricbikes.com for $74. Could have saved $16. There is definatly less protection than the draggin - ion fact the icons, to my suprise have no reinforcement in the seat area. The knees have the arimid stuff and the fit and function of the pant is awesome. I do wish they offered more protection though.
I like the ones you found fropm closeouts.com might have to pick up a pair for that price just to have a look.

I've got the icon anthem jeans and they are pretty heavy-duty. good padding, yet still flexible. I like'em but I don't know how well they would hold up against 70mph pavement.

I don't know what is currently on their site, but

http://www.newenough.com/

Usually has some pretty good deals on closeout stuff. Might want to check to see if they have anything that interests you....
