*SPOILER - What a race!
I finally got a chance to watch the Laguna Seca GP.
That was some great racing! Rossi just out-intimidated Stoner. So much so that he had to cry about it afterward! As if racing was supposed to be nice and civilized.
Rossi made clean passes, well, except for when he went into the dirt on the corkscrew. That almost took them both out. I liked his Colin Edwards pass early on in the corkscrew (remember when Colin passed Rossi there (in '04 I ithink)? I was there for that race).
I can't believe Lorenzo starfished again.
It sucked to be on Michelins.
I'd like to see Nicky on the factory Ducati next year.

Greg White again... I don't know why the whale gets these gigs...enthusiam does not make up for ineptitude...maybe he's cheap?

they had 3 of the races last year also covered by the bigger networks. trying to build enthusiasm in the general public maybe??
if you register (free) on the www.motogp.com website you can then get free access to med resolution full race videos - complete with the Motogp announcers and all - also the post race interviews etc. Very worth the hassle of registering (its not the smoothest registration system to navigate but works).

I am registered and it tells me I need to have a paid subscription to see any of the videos. Can you post a link to one of the medium res videos you mentioned. I can't even find and section or ref to medium res video anywhere on the motoGP site.

No, cliby has it wrong. You can watch some of their produced videos for free but the majority of those and ALL the races are only available on the paid level. It's well worth it!

On the subject of CBS's production decisions, here's a copy/paste from email correspondence I had with a motorsports marketer/publisher. This stuff is right up his alley:
"On Speed, the audience this year has ranged from 91,000 (Holland) to
250,000 (China), with most around 120-130,000. In cable television
terms, that isn't an audience; it's a block party. We're lucky
they're on at all.
By way of comparison, NHRA drag racing draws 625,000 for three hours
and more on Sunday nights, and Formula 1's dawn patrol has routinely
been getting 330,000 on Speed this year (down from over half a
million two years ago, because they aren't doing many re-airs this
year for the West Coast sleep-ins).
On network, CBS can reasonably expect 700,000 to 1 million, and the
working assumption is thus that the majority is composed of either
very casual fans or (mostly) first-timers who stumbled on the
broadcast. Aiming it at the lowest common denominator is an attempt
(a) not to lose the stumblers and (b) bring them back for more,
particularly the first race at the Speedway. I can't really fault the
logic."

Superbling must be right however. I just don't recall doing mroe than registering, but perhaps during a desparate lay-over, starved for motorcycle video I gave in and bought the lower level paid subscription - if so, I will say it is very worth whatever it cost. Sorry to disappoint anyone.

Greg White is a pretty good announcer but they are still trying to educate the public on motorcycle racing, which is good but I am pretty sure most people know why they wear protective gear. So he gets stuck in a bad place I think. But it was better than listening to Freddie Spencer and Ralph Sheeheen. Speed had that guy Lea Duffy(sp?) on for one of the AMA weekends earlier in the year when Sheeheen was not available and he actually had some excitement and actually watched the race which was refreshing.
Also Speed has the worst on screen graphics, the ticker at the top sucks, who cares who is running 29th in the supersport race. No info on gaps increasing or decreasing, and when they do show more information it takes up half the screen and you cant see what is going on behind it. All they have to do is look at the WSBK and MotoGP broadcasts to see how its done. Sorry about the rant, I am glad Speed broadcasts the races I just wish they made some changes.

OK, here's the same rant as usual... CBS coverage sucked...NO HD!? Why? NO warmup lap, no podium, no usual box finisher comments and the whale says the pucks are (plastic) or leather? WTF?
Good to see Doohan hale and hearty though...
