Better CB1100R Prototype Pics

I have mild case of lust for this bike which has only grown since I found a couple of high res photos of the prototype at the Tokyo show.http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2331/...fbc0a47b_b.jpghttp://farm3.static.flickr.com/2066/...5559c2eb_b.jpg

Sexy.

And the girl is pretty hot too.

drew_c14 01-03-2008 04:47 AM

I like the look, but am a little worried that they might keep it air cooled.

Is that the oil cooler up in the openning in the upper fairing?

Voice Box...

WOW, these pics are much better than the first studio concept shots. Disregard the display signs, this bike has moved A LONG WAY from the prototype stage: real turnsignals, standard switch gear, speedometer pickup, shifter linkage through the frame, CCT on the motor, battery box and r/r all point to a production level of finish. Crap, throw some DOT stickers and reflectors on it and start shipping!

Yes, that's an oil cooler in the nose and the only "wart" I can find wrong with this classic concept. Maybe radius the edges instead of the plain looking 90 degree corners.

BTW, all I-C motors are air-cooled. LOL.

I've got to keep repeating to myself, " But it's an IL4. But it's an IL4. But it's an IL4. But it's an IL4....." :) 2009 will be the 40th anniversary of the Honda 4.

killer5280 01-03-2008 08:28 AM

The IL-4 part doesn't bother me, especially since it displaces 1140cc; it should easily out torque the Hawk. I'm even coming around on the air cooled part. The riding position looks reasonable (even if the seat doesn't).
As someone said in an earlier thread: "Me likey!"

Besucher98 01-03-2008 08:40 AM

Yeah, looks nice.... I wish they would go away from the wrap down fairings over the handlebars.... but maybe it is just me!

FL02SupaHawk996 01-03-2008 09:02 AM

That bike rocks and only one auto CCT to change out...where do I sign:)

lazn 01-03-2008 10:49 AM

I kinda prefer the CB1100F: http://www.motorcycledaily.com/02jan...da_cb1100f.htm

All a matter of taste, I just don't like the headlights on the R.

edit: looks too much like every generic robot out there: http://www.primidi.com/images/bear_r...components.jpg

I like the pre '83 Superbike look, but who wants an air cooled, wide body, high in the frame I-4 engine?

For what they'd probably price it at, you could buy a near new ZRX1200, a clean '82 GS1100, and have enough money left over to buy a spare VTR.

Maybe me, but, like I said in an earlier thread, it depends on a bunch of things, especially weight.

You're probably right about this. Why would anyone want an '82 GS1100? Actually, back in '82 I really wanted a GS, but I later had a chance to ride one and was glad that I never bought one; it was the most truckish motorcycle I have ever ridden.

RK1 01-08-2008 09:35 AM

killer5280;

On your first point... For the air cooled CB1100R to out perform a $4000 late model ZRX, it would probably need to weigh under 450 lbs. soaking wet. Possible, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Second point... I never rode a GS1100 so I'll take your word for it. But point is, if you crave an '80s superbike, you could get a minty 750 or 1000 Interceptor, a GPZ 750 or 1100, An FJ1100/1200, or CB900f/1100f for $2500 or $3k max.

Again, if they built that bike with that look and ergos, but a CBR1000rr engine, I might be interested. If they build it with a 1983 engine, I'd rather buy a 1983 bike and keep the other $7500 in my pocket. That's just me.

Killemall 01-08-2008 02:10 PM

IMO the girl is too skinny and the bike too fat.

happytrack44 01-08-2008 02:29 PM

I remember riding that wobbly old crap and I like good machinery like the hawk.
It is pretty tho!

zenrider 01-08-2008 03:06 PM

I sure like it! But I'm a sucker for that old-school look.

I am sure it wouldn't compete with the new race bikes, but that is not its mission. Its all about providing a retro-option for the Honda lineup. Some ask, Why not buy an authentic retro from the 80's? Well, compared to the well used and corroded 1982 version, this new one combines The Look with excellent brakes, modern suspension, 21st century metallurgy, and new electronics... So if instead of a repli-racer, someone was looking for a more standard bike with a little attitude, this would be a good choice.

Notice that many manufactures are putting retro bikes out. Ducati and Triumph have their cafe racers, Harley has a Mert Lawwill flat-tracker, and of course there are cruiser's galore to look like 1940's chops and bobbers.

What sells a motorcycle? They sell on 10% technology and 90% fashion.

Even Superhawks.

A new CB1100R would sure look good next to my '82 CB1100F racer in the shed...

I had a GPZ750 and loved it, even though it handled like the frame had a hinge in the middle of it...
