the guy has advertised them as gsxr750, gsx1300r, tl1000r calipers. ive heard the gsxr calipers fit the storm so i was wondering if these would??

I believe (from what I've gathered from the wealth of knowledge on this site), the only ones that fit are the 01-02 GSXR1k calipers. Something to do with the space between the mounting bolts.

If you try them out and they work, let us know!

ye ive just been looking into that and it dosent look good.
but while were on the subject i was down the bike shop today and the gsx1400 calipers look exactly the same as the gsxr1000 k1k2 calipers. can anyone confirm this??

Get yourself some good 4 pots. Six pots add nothing but weight over a 4 pot solution. That's why they are not used anymore.

Looks like it to me too. But I'd hate to influence your buying decisions just based on a pic.

You'll also need an RC, 929, or 952 master cylinder.

They come up on ebay all the time, mostly in that condition but sometimes more pristeen.

Average price for calipers is generally about fifty dollars. Average price for master cylinder is about sixty dollars.

That's a forty dollar pair, owing to the finish faults, so it sounds like the price is a little high.

BTW, the rusty rattle plate is a sign they came from a bike that was stored outside (or perhaps owned in the UK? :wink:.) A garage kept pair won't have rust on the rattle plate or corrosion on the screws.

believe me mines garaged every night but the quality of the road salt in this country is the worst and things rot quicker than youd imagine. when you say it needs a new master cylinder i take it i will need new brake lines aswell as ive only just forked out cash for a braided set. in which case it may work out cheaper for me to buy a set of 6 pots of a gsxr as you can use the same master cylinder cant you??

You can use the vtr master with all of them it just won't perform as well as it could. It will still be better than stock just not where they should be. The lines are generally the same as long as the length needed hasn't changed.

ahhh thats cool. i think i may invest in the RC51 calipers for now and wait to get a master cylinder. summer is fast approaching and im still without some sticky rubber so thall come first

BTW my buddy owns an '01 GSXR1000 and an '05 SV1000 and he says that the SV actually has better feel than the gixer just FYI. I'll have to check to see if the mounting holes are the same distance apart.

I have the 6 pot and they're a huge improvement over stock but the main benefit is they're direct fit. But they're more expensive and harder to get a hold of.

thats cool. for the moment i think i wll get the RC51 calipers as i literally have no calipers whatsoever at the moment. i was going to strip my 1's down and replace the oil and dust seals but after seeing the state of the pistons it wasnt worth the hassle.
it will definetly be good to know if the sv calipers are the same though as i will be able to sell the RC51 calipers on without any loss id imagine if they are worth buying

the cheapest i have found gsxr 6 pot calipers is £110. would you say there worth an extra £60 over RC51 calipers??

I wouldnt recommend that you mismatch the master cylinder. These are your brakes. The difference between a 14 and 18mm master is significant.

After all, the purchase is to get better brakes right? Look for a good deal on calipers or a master and buy it. Then buy the other when you can. Then install them.

You know you need to slightly modify the calipers, right. Do a search.

my purchase is to get brakes period as i have none had to ride down the bike shop today via the rear brake. if i had time to search im sure i would find a better deal but this bike is my daily commute and my weekend toy and its been nearly 2 weeks now without it. needs to be up and running ASAP.
as for the modifications i know a metal engineer that owes me a favour or 2 so that shouldnt be a problem

It's a very minor change, just milling off a tiny amount where the lower ear mates.

I have the 6 pot as I said before, when I first put them on I didn't have the master and they were still a huge improvement. Since then I put the master on and the end result was not that much different at all. Just my 2cents I also have the larger 320mm rotors which make a big difference as well. But if he's got no brakes at all then just the calipers are much better than what he has.

The calipers in your picture you posted earlier look exactly like the stock RC51 ones.

Based on the info on this forum I just purchased a set of RC51 calipers on Ebay and will now be looking for the master cylinder as well. Since my SH is track only I am hoping to see some real benfits coming out of this upgrade.

Anybody here run the RC51 calipers with the stock VTR master cylinder? I also have a CBR900RR master cylinder that I can use but it looks visually the same as the VTR one. Anyone know if there is a difference?

the trick is to attach the top bolt and push the bottom mount all the way to the fork leg ear. Then do a tracing about 1/8" inch out, directly on the caliper. Use this as your working shape.

just finished my brake upgrade after spending forever bleeding the things at the moment i have braided lines, RC51 calipers, EBC HH sintered pads and VFR400 discs. havent got round to sourcing an RC51 master cylinder yet but will do soon.
ive found the VFR400 discs to be a better upgrade than stock as they have a lot more venting and because of this they are a fair bit lighter. i think its around 100g a disc.
havent been able to take the bike out yet as i havent got an allen key big enough to tighten the caliper bolts so im going to have to take a nice slow ride to the garage tomorow to borrow theirs. hoping for big improvements oncve the master cylinder is fitted

I see it's too late but if anyone else is interested in an alternative it appears the SV1000 calipers will also fit. I haven't tried them to know if any grinding is required but the bolt holes are the right distance apart. My buddy owns a gsxr1000 with the 6 pot brakes and the SV1000 with the 4 and he says the SV has better feel. He's not sure if they actually stop better but they are right at the top of the lever when brakeing.

a bit late but still nice to know that they do fit. im over the moon with the RC51 calipers though. a complete transformation
