VTR Project - Rolling Chassis

Well I finally got some time today while the weather was decent (supposed to get upwards of 3 inches of rain tomorrow!!). I got my APE CCTs installed so I could begin reassembling everthing that came back from powdercoat. We are in the rolling chassis stage, and things should go smoother from here on out. These pics show the frame, swingarm and wheels all powdercoated a semi gloss black. I have new Brembo HP rotors, RC51 front end and a 520 conversion in these pics. I will post up some more pics as I complete different stages.

that looks AWESOME!!!! I love the look of the black powdercoated frame (red tank looks really good on it too). Should be sweet when it's all done. Looking forward to seeing the rest

+1 I concur. It's beautiful! That decides it for me. If I ever have to drop the motor I'm getting my frame and swingarm powdercoated.

Looks super without the rads. Damn, if there was a way to keep her cool without the side rads....

I'd have to say "so far so good". The frame is tight man. Me likes

DAMN, that looks so freakin mean......

I've always liked black....it's understated and not like "LOOK AT ME!!" . My old Mustang, I did everything under the hood black. It never won any car shows, but lemme tell ya, black makes people underestimate what you've got for some reason....

My bike's current paint scheme is definitely "LOOK AT ME!" in red and white, but if it ever goes down bad, it's gonna get the red and black treatment for sure

Looks great.
How was the red stripe applied to the wheels? Paint, adhesive?

That does look good. But man i bet that seat is uncomfortable. bwaaaa. Dantropolis: I dont know if this is where he got the stripe on the wheel but on ebay if you search for Triumph accessories you will find this same kind of tape.

Got the stripes off eBay. They are just pre-curved vinyl stickers. They were 8 bucks shipped.

Looks great!!!!!

I assume your going with a black rear subframe as well? I have mine off right now and going to a flat black. And I love the rims... I'm doing my 6 spokers the same way, although I polished the very edge, then put the tape on....

Keep the pics coming.... looks awsome.

Do they require any substantial surface prep? Also I wonder how they hold up to brake dust, chain grease, washing soap etc...

I just wiped the rims down with alcohol, it hasn't gotten dirty yet, so no idea about how they will hold up. For $8 I figured I would try it. If I liked the look I was going to paint them on.

I had some that I have since taken off, but they held up very well for more than a year. I just got tired of the way they looked.

Project

The bike is looking good. I am in the process of putting my vtr vfr project together.I have the vfr swing arm and cbr 1000 front end mounted. waiting on the lug nuts so that it will be a roller. What type of rear sets and front sprocket cover do you have. I have looked at a couple of places but haven't found anything .Are you going with the side mounted radiators . I have been looking at a few cruiser bikes that have narrow but long radiators. Also what are you using for plastic. It looks like R1 stuff.

The tail section is from a CBR 1000RR. I picked that because of the vents. I am putting an underseat radiator in and wanted better air flow. The front end is also from a CBR 1000 RR. I have trimmed it down to make it look like the VTR Prototype that American Honda produced a few years back. I have the hoses coming this week and just need to finish up the subframe to determine the size of the radiator I can jam in there while still leaving room for the electronics and the battery. Adding the radial levers threw a monkey wrench into the clearance with the fairing so I am fabricating new mounts for the upper stays.

In case anyone is keeping track of the glacial pace of my project, I have posted up a few new pics of my progress. Getting ready to install a set of Yosh stage 1 cams this week. I am also planning on dropping the bike off the end of May for the new exhaust! Can't wait for that!

That is looking mint! I'm finally making some progress on my bike. Mine will be a streefighter, everything on the bike will be powder coated black and i've had the tank polished down to the metal. It's looking sweet. I much prefer those rims to my 3 spoke ones though.

New Pics. I am waiting on the Samco silicone hoses and the rear radiator. Some minor mounting issues with the tail section to finish up then it is just the wiring to complete and the carbon fiber duct work on the front.

The headers are stock headers that have been ceramic coated. If my exhaust guy will ever return my call, I hope to be getting the under engine exhaust done this month!
