Two Brothers Hi mounts vs low mounts review

I ran the low mounts for about 2500 miles. Then switched the mid pipes to hi mounts. My idle speed picked up with no adjustment and they are noticeably quieter than the low mounts although I would still consider them loud. Must be the two extra bends in the mid pipe to explain the decibel loss. And the slight additional backpressure caused by the two extra bends in the mid pipe probably explain why my idle speed picked up by about 100-150 rpm.

Low mounts are really loud. Hi mounts are noticeably quieter on the highway. I wish I had gotten the hi mounts first now that I have actually been able to compare the two.

So if you like the Two Brothers sound but are concerned about your neighbors get the hi mounts. They are still what I would consider loud though but much easier on the neighbors than the low mounts expecially if you leave at 5 am like I do.

The hi mounts feel stronger thru the midrange 4500-7000 but that is seat of the pants with no dyno run to back it up.

I mean it makes sense, but is it the concensus that high-mounts are quieter than low-mounts?

I was set on low-mounts because I'll eventually be putting some soft saddlebags on that I don't want roasted. But the noise issue is also a big one with me.

Maybe there are different high-mount kits are shaped differently and have different heights? Anyone know for sure? Are the angles and canister heights pretty much the same among different manufacturers?

And you've got TBR high-mounts as well. I guess that's what I wanted to know. Sweet.

Not really, different "high mounts" do have different heights. Jardines are lower and let you keep the stock turn signals. Two Bros are a similar height but I believe a little closer together. Devils, Leo Vincis, and Migs I've heard called "ultra high" mount (whatever...) Anyway they are a bit higher. I currently have the Leo's and even tweaked everything a little so they are as high as possible and just miss the fairing. Also pushed them closer together. There are others of course but those are the ones I have experience with.

I have TBR low mounts and wonder why there is so much talk of them being too loud? They are not too loud IMO in fact I would say the are just about perfect. I almost didn't buy the TBR slip ons beacuse of the 'too loud' talk which I now feel is all off base; many bikes are louder, most HD's and Ducatis with any kind of after market pipe are louder at least the ones I have heard. I have put exhaust systems and jet kits in so many bikes I can't remeber them all...my view is the Two Brothers systems are well within acceptable volume ranges. JIM

I have a full TBR high mount system with the small oval cans. While riding the bike, they seem too loud at idle, and quite down a bit above 4000 rpms. Off the bike idle isn't obnoxious like damn near all Harley's, and aren't bad at all moving. So after hearing them off the bike, both standing by the road and following on another bike, I think they are reasonable enough. I've definately heard louder... I was nervous about the noise complaints I read about, but in person haven't found them too be "exactly" accurate.

The only noise complaints I've ever had was guys riding behind me at times when there isn't much change in rpms. They complained of the drone.

Jim, you're old and half deaf. They're loud. Come to think of it, I'm old and half deaf and they're loud.

My neighbors across the street say they can hear me start my bike every morning and I don't rev it. I just start it and start rolling down the street (It's a slight downhill for half the block. When I get to the bottom of the hill I shift to 2nd and navigate my way out of the neighborhood at 2K rpm. I leave at 5:00 am.

They say they don't mind but say they can definitely hear it. I have the high mount small C2 oval cans. I wear ear plugs all the way to work except for the last mile when I leave the 7 eleven. It sounds good but it is loud. Since I have been wearing ear plugs I wouldn't ride without them. They cut down the wind noise and I can hear my bike fine. I let a friend of mine ride it so I could hear it go thru the gears and it sounds awesome. And it has a nasty idle. The cruiser guys at work are jealous because their loud pipes don't have the same attitude.

Hey Jim, question for you. Did you jet the carbs with the Two Bros system? I have been told it is not necessary with the slip-ons. I have also been told that a jet kit will only help with the idle. Any thoughts? I am new to this forum and just purchased an '02 Hawk that came with TBR low-mounts. The bike sucks gas and my mileage so far is in the low 30's.

Thanks for your help!
