Hi folks,

I picked up a set of 2004 RC51 fork tubes on eBay but am having a bitch of a time finding triple clamps (my dream combo is 929/954 lower and SP1 upper, but no luck so far). I just did a search on AllBalls site and saw the the 04-05 CBR1000 and 05-06 CBR600 use the same steering bearings (and both have USD forks). Anyone know if the triple from these bikes can be used?

The triples from the 1000RR can be used... they are basicly the same as the 929/954... The "downside" is that they are slightly wider between the forklegs, so you will have absolutely no clearence to the body panels... Also the top triple have some ugly mounting points for the HESD steering damper...

The triples for the 600 is a different diameter on the forklegs (pre -07) so that can't be used...

 

thanks, I guess that answers my question. Solving that issue, then, would just launch a whole bunch of others (spacers, axle,...). Guess I'll just have to be patient. If anyone has a set of triples for a 929/954/SP1 they want to get rid of.....

As I am currently in the midst of all of this crap, let me offer this advice-Wait for the RC upper tripple, it will make your Clip-on, and brake master cylinder options much easier to work out. However, it has been speculated that you could put clip-ons above the the 929/954 uppper triple if you are using RC51 fork legs. I have a pair of 954 clip-ons that MIGHT work for you in that scenario, but I can't promise anything. If I were to have what you have, I would get the RC51 upper when you find it, and then you can use Heli's from 929/954, TL, Ducati 900ss (I think these are the ones that have been used) and possibly others. If I could do it all over again, I might have held out for RC51 forks and upper triple clamp.
