Racetech Fork Springs
Hi Guys,
I purchased a set of Race Tech Springs (FRSP S3534 085) for my 2003 Firestorm/SuperHawk. My weight is approx. 75Kg. I have upgraded one fork only at present, replaced the old spring with the new Racetech one, cut the spacer as per instructions i.e. total length of spring & spacer is 400mm filled with Motul 7.5wt oil with a 140mm air gap. I reassembled the fork and now when compressing the fork, have a scraping sound on both the compression and rebound strokes. Is this normal with the Race Tech springs, have others experienced similar. The spring is rubbing on the inside of the fork & I am wondering if this is simply a side effect of going from a progressive to a linear spring or something more sinister. I have not upgraded the second one so the 'standard' fork does have a hint of scraping, however, it is much more evident in the 'Race Tech' one. Any advice / suggestions would be greatly appreciated. |
Obviously you don't have everything lined up properly. Here is a pretty good thread with pictures!

No way man, they are just springs like any other and forks should never scrape. I have race techs in several bikes and this is not normal.

If they are scraping, thats definately not good, when I put mine in,you could hear them somewhat when I pressed down on fork, but once they were oiled up,they went quiet.
Make sire you put everything right. I noticed too,you can't use the washers that came with kit,you have to use the original washers, the ones with kit don't fit in the tube or is to big,and can cause scraping. |

Thanks for the replies and the info. I have looked at the pics linked by RWhisen and can confirm that I assembled as per pics. I also realized that the washers provided were too large & reused the originals. I will pull it apart again just to make sure. Let you know how it goes.
