Question about 520 conv.
I just saw an ad for a 520 conversion to lower the final drive ratio from 2.56 to 2.87. Is this a worth while modification? I wouldn't mind a little more low end grunt as I'm not the type of rider who likes to drive all that fast. Only question is if you do this can you keep the front end down everytime you get on it? Or do you have to lay on the tank? Thanks

I started by dropping a tooth in the front and it was a big improvement. I later went up two in the back. I like how the gears are spaced with 15/43 but 1st gear is a bit low. Great for wheelies though. Personally I'd stick with 530 because it lasts so much longer than 520. It does free up some rotating mass though.

I did the 520 switch, used the double gold chain and hardened alum rear sprocket....$200+ lasted a year! Stretched the chain, ate the sprocket... I bagged it and went back to a 530 and steel sprockets, rotating mass wasnt noticable 15k miles later, still like new.
I also bought a yellow box, its the speedo correction device from Australia. Works great and is fully adjustable to correct any gear changes you make.
Easy to install too.

Thanks XLSR for the info. I did have some concerns with an aluminum rear sprocket. Hardened or not. So unless I can find this same system in a steel I guess I should bag it. If it last a year thats not to good. Are ther any good systems out there? I saw the other one on ebay. Thanks

I just went with the JT 43 tooth reat sprocket (530/steel) and I love it....I also did the SpeedoHealer "speedo corrections" instead of the Yellowbox. It's geared down enough and still has range on the tank (100 to 120 miles per tank). And awesome wheelies!
At 5k I am doing 80 mph.

After the aluminum sprocket wore out I bought one of the stealth sprockets, alum carrier with the steel teeth ring, looked cool. I wasnt thrilled with it much either, it didnt last long and seemed to wear oddly. Then the chain stretched and the bike pulsated forward as the stretched part of the chain rotated.. Was just too funky so I went back to the stock setup and have been happy ever since. Sounds like others have had better luck, maybe it will work out for you.

I've seen 530 setups last 30k+ miles if taken care of. I've seen 520 conversions get smoked in less than 4k. The chain stretches much faster and a stretched chain takes the sprockets with it. The only time I'd use 520's is for racing.

Thanks K 5280, thats some good info.I will try to get the same package from Bike Bandit. Thats a nice price as the other company I called today was $210.00 for pretty much the same thing. Will also look into the speed correction unit
