FUEL TANK
#4
I think airbox is the exact same. The petcock has to be re-located to the frame rather than under the tank though... that may be what you're thinking. But I think it's a fairly easy conversion...

Yeah just make sure to have your 8mm socket and ratchet so you can lift the tank and get to the petcock to put it on reserve. But you do have a reserve as I the light goes on when you get to the reserve portion of the tank. At least on the earlier models.

Be sweet to mount one on the left, maybe near the choke

Airbox is the same and yes the diaphram/petcock is mounted separately with a single hose that runs to an elbow mounted on the tank.
If you want a petcock with a tap so you don't have to use an 8mm spanner then the Varadero ones fit. But you need to have the separate diaphragm. Handy with the 19L tank instead of the elbow, otherwise just remove the petcock/diaphragm along with the tank and there is no fuel leakage.

These bikes dont have a reserve. I dont like diaphrams on petcocks. They can leak and or leave you stranded. I have swapped out petcocks on other bikes to get rid of them. Not as easy with the location on these bikes. With a manual petcock with reserve, meaning two different heights inlets, you know 100% when you have a gallon left. If I could figure out how to do it on this bike I would

Bigger tank
I've been reading about the bigger tank, it's 5 gal vs. 4.2 gal on the U.S. fuel tanks starting in 2002 I believe. I'd love to have that little extra fuel myself.

Does the light turning on not give you the same thing as a reserve? Just it doesn't shut the bike off so when you're leaned over in a corner and the bike falls flat on it's face causing you to have to take evasive action to keep from crashing and making you have to reach down and turn the valve. Instead it just comes on and says "hey! you're now on reserve!" I get the not liking vacuum actuated petcocks but you DO have a reserve. I guess you could just take the spring out of the vacuum actuator and maybe even install it on the other side of the diaphragm so that it's always on. Then you'd have both reserve and a non-vacuum actuated petcock.
