Thanks Tweety.

I'll measure the GSXR, see how they match up.

Then I'll have two options.

1. shorten the steering stem on the GSXR to fit the Honda steering head.
2. Buy 954 triples and use the GSXR tubes and acessories.

It's frustrating and fun all at the same time.

Well, according to the charts your GSX-R triples should be 207 mm CC... So if you use CBR triples the GSX-R wheel will be a bust... But mixing in either a CBR wheel or a wheel from a TL-S/TL-R could work... Or like Jamie, modify a VTR wheel to fit...

Well damn, hadn't even thought about using a CBR wheel. Hmm, haven't bought the wheel yet. That still means finding and buying a 954 triple tree. I guess it's a good thing I have all winter.

I'm running the stock VTR wheel on my GSXR/CBR954 front end. It requires repalcing the wheel bearings and making new spacers, but my goal was to make it look as close to stock as possible. The rotors are the biggest problem - I used CBR1100XX parts which fit the VTR wheel and are Ø310mm. The only issue is that the GSXR forks position the calipers for Ø320mm rotors. So far it's working just fine (well over a year now) but I understand that this is not something everyone will want to do.

I used the '01 gsxr 1k forks with 954 triples and an RC51 wheel and it went together pretty easily actually. I still have the forks because I switched to '06 gsxr forks with radial mount brakes which slid right in the place of the old forks.

Jamie, I think I had read that somewhere else about your bike.

310 vs 320, that's only 5mm difference in the calipers, so it shouldn't be a big deal.

So, my options, because I'm not hung up on astetics, would be to get the 954 Triples and a CBR wheel with 320mm Rotors, or will the GSXR rotors bolt to a CBR wheel?

GSXR rotors are completely different and won't work with honda wheels, if you want 320mm rotors go with either cbr600-1000rr or RC51 the rotors for thr RC51 and the 03 to 07 cbr are interchangable, (same bolt pattern). I actually have some RC51 rotors if you are intrested let me know.

Shifting gears.

Found a 954 triple and forks for $200. Seems good. I have calipers and m/c from 929/954. I'd need? Rim, rotors, clipons..?

I'll put the GSXR stuff back up for sale. Hopefully won't lose money.

Thoughts?

BTW, you guys are awesome for enduring the never ending questions. Thanks.

SH22, if I go with this particular 954 front, I'll need rotors.

That's ok. I'd be going with all CBR in the front.

The CBR 1000RR are the years 04-07 and the rotors changed in 06-07 to a larger rotor... The bolt pattern are interchangeable though... All the way through 929/954 so in essence 00-07 CBR wheels work...

$200 seems like a good price, I might have to change directions. Locate a wheel locally. Clipons as well.

And that is why everybody (almost everybody) ends up doing the swap with CBR parts... Because with a bit of patience you always find somebody upgrading their bike with expensive stuff selling the front end dirt cheap...

$200 sounds really cheap just make sure it's straight, if you already have the gsxr parts sell the triple get a 954 triple and a cbr wheel and rotors and you're pretty much set though.

Not to worry... I have a defect brain... I can remember stupid and mostly useless facts forever without a conscious effort... And I still keep forgetting names, dates, places and wheater I went to the shop to buy milk or bread... And If I where to put down my car or bike keys, it'd take me 10 seconds to forget where... On a good day...

My mother told me that if my head wasn't connected I'd forget that to! I have to repeat names over and over when I 1st meet them or it's gone as soon as I say it, not good in my biz.

Yup, exactly what happened to me..

I have a CBR1000RR front wheel because the guy who upgraded his 954 wanted his wheels to match, so he kept his 954 parts and gave me his new front wheel with his old forks, and the 1000 wheel matches our VTR wheel pretty nicely.

Right now, the auction is $200, and that is triples and forks. So, I could keep the triples and sell/trade the forks, maybe even trade for a CBR wheel.

What's a fair price for 954 triples? Found a set for $200 plus $15 shipping.

It seems this guy should have all you need and if nobody else shows up to the party, you could make away with it cheap...

http://motors.shop.ebay.com/ace_moto...dkw=&_osacat=0

He has a fork, wheel, axle, brakes & rotors and even a fender... Saves you a nice bundle on shipping to get it in one place...

Tweety,

Those are the forks I was looking at. Somone has a bid in on them, don't want to get into a bid war. As I was typing this, got an email from a guy, somewhat local, who has a set of triples for $90. Think I'll jump on those.

So I have:
GSXR tubes
GSXR M/C and calipers
GSXR Clipons (not sure that they'll work, but I have them)

Need:
Triples
Rim
Rotors
Fender

Ok, so I've got a list to work from.

Use a bid sniper... it's an easy way... set up a chained bid, if you get teh forks it bids on the wheel and so on...

Umm, that sounds like greek right now. I'm sure I could download and figure out the bid sniper, never done it before.

If I got it for $250, I could resell the tubes, but right now, I can get just the triples for $90. I'll put in a max bid, and if I'm out bid, I'm out bid.

I've got 5 or 6 months before riding season again. Not in a huge hurry. I'm hitting up some friends in the local riding clubs to see who has what parts lying around. I had a GSXR wheel lined up for $100. Gotta cancel that and find a CBR wheel.

So I had a DUH moment tonight. I've got a buddy who's a machinist. Instead of spending more money on more parts, he suggested that I have him turn a new steering stem to fit the GSXR triples with a VTR length.

Use all GSXR parts that I have already.

DUH to me.

Yes, I do deserve that.

I'm taking the GSXR lower triple to work, let him look at him, make sure they have the stock.
