Forks

Forgive me if this topic has been covered. I did try using the search. However didn't find what I was looking for.

So, I have and opportunity to buy some forks and wheels fairly cheap. They are off an 05 gsxr 750. How much "fabricating would it take to swap out the entire front end?

Also, I had Race Tech do my suspension(fully worked). Would it be a stupid move to swap out my forks for stock gixxer forks? I hear goods things about the newer ones.

The reason for the swap would be for performance and cosmetics. Would I be better off just getting my RT forks a powder coat job or something?

Thanks

If it's anything like the gixxer swaps I've seen, you just need a custom bearing or two. This link may get you started...

The newer USD forks have a definite unsprung weight advantage, but whether it's better than you're prepped forks is arguable. Most stock forks whether USDor not usually need help with the springs and/or the damping. I have no experience with Suzuki so I can't tell you what their forks generally need, but I'm sure there are others here that can. Or contact Jamie at DMR.

Just my .02 The stock forks on the VTR flex like crazy when the going gets, well, going. When I'm 2-up with my wife, it's X2. For this reason alone, the swap is worth it (again, IMO). You could always sell the worked stockers to help offset costs. I say go for it. With the USD's you should gain external compression damping adjust-ability and the list goes on... (better brakes, 5 spoke wheels etc).

I too would say do it but do everything from the gsxr. Do the wheel, brakes, master, bars (or apex adjstble), wheel, etc. Dont do that wacky nonsense of machining every other part to fit. It will never be right. I did it with the 1000RR forks & it was a cakewalk.

I read that. From what I read though it capped off at 04. Wasn't sure if the 05 was a total no go or it it would just take a little persuasion.

Thank you all. Keep the opinions coming.

Just throwing it out there, I've heard good things about fork braces, but I have no experience with using one. Hell I don't really know what for flex feels like. Just putting it out there for options/discussion.

Jamie worked forks + Fork brace, Jaime worked F41 rear shock is more than enough for me on the street.

It is comfy, tractable, takes the ripples and bumps well and never gets out of shape due to suspension.

A particular bumpy 180 deg, 50-70mph corner I ride 5 days a week. Has always moved me a good 3 feet sideways from entry point through the apex.

After Jamie worked on my forks....plus a little fine tuning of sags and clickers.. I now track though that corner with no stutter or drifting.

I ride high end sport bikes often.. I kow what "better" suspension is.... and I like it.. but that does not mean the worked Showas and some add ons does not work as well as needed on the street.

Part of it is bling. The Hawk looks more like a modern bike with the conversion, you have to admit!

Carbon frame cover? Almost looks like the cast aluminum had been painted.

I hear that! How did you get the edge by the weld? I'm thinking of painting my rims a charcoal color and think what you did on the casting looks awesome, so may spray that as well. Wouldn't mind seeing a close up of that

You can tape it along the weld with painters blue tape and make sure you cover everything else around if you spray paint.

While I'm not afraid to dig into a bike (I was a shop tech at a local Kawi dealership) I am awfuly lazy about it.. I'd rather ride  and I know I'm way too lazy to make my bike look that nice. Props to those who do take the time for it.
