Changing clutch & brake levers
I have some black clutch and brake levers to replace my stock levers. They should be here tommorrow. How hard are they to install?
I don't want to pull them off and put the others on, or can't get them back on. I am also concerned with adjusting them after they are put on. Have any of you done this project yet? On a scale of 1-10 how hard was it? |
Well, anyone? Going to go do a google search I guess.

Well, when you remove the old ones and put the new ones on, aare adjustments necessary?
|
Well, the levers are already adjustable in case you didn't know.
Be sure and clean and lubricate the pivot points and also check the little rubber boots over the master cylinder piston (where the lever contacts). |
super easy.....remove and grease new levers pivots ..and replace.

Well, I am heading home to try this. It looks like there is just 1 bolt to remove and just stick in the new lever and put the bolt back in?!
Should be easier than replacing the windscreen yseterday! Those rubber grommets are a beeeaaaathc to take out! :) |
Grab them with needle nose pliers and spray some WD-40 in there to help loosen them up. They will tear if they are old. I usually don't take them out - just a visual inspection is fine to verify they are not cracked.

Well, I put them on in 10 minutes. It was easy and actually fun turning wrenches on your own bike. Thanks for the advice and encouragement.
Now to find my next project.... |
I got a set of aftermarket black levers also. Mine has a zip tie on them. Did yours?
