Wind Screens

What kind of wind screens do you guys run? the wind noise is really bad with the stock one.

RickB 01-09-2008 05:40 AM

I have the double bubble, seems to be better than the stock one imho.

Sgt Rock 01-09-2008 05:51 AM

I have the double bubble.

motojoe 01-09-2008 06:37 AM

I have a Zero Gravity screen. It's not a double bubble or a touring one. It's something in between both. It's tall like a touring screen but doesnt have a deflection lip. It deflects the wind great. I haven't seen anyone else's bike with one on it. I'm not a fan of the double look. Plus I have heard rumors that the double bubble will act like a magnifying glass and damage the gauge cluster lens.

.......and since you mentioned the gage cluster, is the temp gage normally very dim at night of do I possible have a bulb burn out?

mikecronis 01-09-2008 10:00 AM

Lockhart Phillips Zero Gravity Double-Bubble is by far the best screen for this bike. Looks sharp and reduces that annoying wind TONS. Best mod ever for this bike. I'd say it's REQUIRED. Honda admits people change out the windscreen anyway so "..why bother with a functional windscreen when they're going to replace it as soon as they buy their bike among other bits.."

floppyhat 01-09-2008 10:21 AM

I really like the looks of the Zero sport Touring screen, anybody used it?

Besucher98 01-09-2008 10:31 AM

"Lockhart Phillips Zero Gravity Double-Bubble"???

Is there really such a beast? I thought it was only L-P or Z-G.....

FL02SupaHawk996 01-09-2008 01:01 PM

I run a smoke double bubble and have zero complaints...functional and looks sweet too;)

ghopki1 01-09-2008 01:13 PM

Zero Grav Double Bubble here also.

Of course, I got it 2nd hand from e-bay for $20.

FL02SupaHawk996 01-09-2008 01:19 PM

Dang Ghopki, you stole it! Mine cost nearly $4K, but came with the bike...LOL:evillaugh:

ghopki1 01-09-2008 02:58 PM

It was pretty cheap, but I watched e-bay for a month or so.

I like the auctions that end at 3-5AM. Nobody wants to stay up for them.

Condor 01-09-2008 03:01 PM

memphis shades...

Shmittay 01-09-2008 03:10 PM

i love the puig double bubble on my bike

nuhawk 01-09-2008 03:15 PM

I have the Puig, too! It does a good job of getting the wind up over you. The Interceptor runs the Zero Gravity DB and it does a good job too. I think the ZG lifts the air a little better but it's hard to tell because the bikes are so different.

You may want to check your bulb.

nova_scotian_996 01-10-2008 06:04 AM

Im 6'4 so I went with the ZG Sport Touring,,,,,huge difference. I dont think it looks too bad considering there is so much of me above the handle bars the extra height on the screen isnt as noticeable.

motojoe 01-10-2008 09:12 AM

Does the ZG Sport-Touring screen have a turned up lip on it? I saw ZG screens in the PartsUnlimited catalog that did. I didn't see any of the ZG screens like the one I have still being offered.

This is it here...my bike happens to be the fastest color-black...there isnt as much contrast and it flows together a little better....

Here is a picture of mine.

Taller than stock, but not a double bubble or ST.

Anyone else have one like it?

Zero Gravity bought it new.

I've got a ZG double bubble on mine, I like the look of that one though. :)

Looks like the whole screen is the height of the higher bubble, it must give good wind protection.

motojoe 01-10-2008 09:43 AM

No complaints here. Just never saw another Sh with one.

FL02SupaHawk996 01-10-2008 09:48 AM

The double bubble is about 15'' tall:

http://www.1tail.com/sa/p/ZERO_DOUBL...7-04_SMOKE.htm

It's all I need and more:fight:

Hotbrakes 01-10-2008 09:48 AM

Currently running 3/4s of a Zero Gravity double bubble. It used to be just tall enough to tuck behind and see over. Now that the left corner is gone it lets too much air in haha.

Gerrit 01-29-2008 06:25 AM

Puig or Powerbronze....I sourced locally in SA, these 2 products, both the same price, the question is which will work better with the SH.

Your thoughts?

Gerrit

Hawkrider 01-29-2008 08:36 PM

I think Puig is better quality, fit, and looks. I've owned both.

I am currently running one and think it's decent. Being 6'3" it was difficult to tuck in behind the stock screen. It does pick up some pretty good vibration's at high speeds and can kinda distort your vision. All in all it's good for what it is.

cperson 02-06-2008 08:25 PM

Which aftermarket windscreen (if any)?

I'm considering getting a "double bubble" type windscreen to improve the airflow around myself. I've read quite a few threads about aftermarket windscreens. There are many opinions regarding looks, quality, and function. I can sort those issues out myself.

Comments about the "melting instrument cluster" concern me. Apparently the suns rays are magnified as they pass through the windscreen and supposedly damage the instruments. Two questions:

1. How much of a real concern is this? And are some brands worse that other?

2. If you get a smoke or dark smoke color does this reduce or eliminate the problem?

My VTR has a zero gravity clear windscreen a previous owner installed. It appears to be an OEM replacement. I'm not thrilled with fit and finish - looser that stock one, gaps where it meets the fairing.

Other opinions / experience / knowledge on the aftermarket windscreens are welcome. Thanks.

FL02SupaHawk996 02-07-2008 05:58 AM

I've got the double bubble smoke with nothing melting down here in FL where the sun gets hot...

cperson 02-07-2008 07:38 AM

FL02SupaHawk996,
Thanks for your reply. I live in Rochester NY which is probably the inverse of sun from where you are. If you have no problems with melting I sure won't. Which brand do you have - looks like a Puig? I like the shape (no creases) think it looks nice. And do you know if yours is smoke or dark smoke? It looks pretty dark in your avatar photo.

102dals 02-25-2008 11:17 PM

I have a ZG doub-bub in Vegas, and I have no problems with the guages. Sun here is VERY intense...and I have NO problem. Mine is dark model, maybe that helps?
I'm 5 10 & I have a consistent soft whistle in my helmet above 55mph, from the visor. Happened when I added the DB a while back, but the airflow hits me in a better spot, and the whistle is softer with earplugs in.
I like the look of the Puig better, but I got a deal on the ZG "second" from eBay (~$20). I'm also curious about the touring screen by ZG. Not quite enough to drop $70 now, though.

RK1 02-26-2008 01:41 AM

I always wear earplugs on the highway, so don't have a problem with wind noise per se.

What I disliked about the OEM screen was that at 70-80 mph i'd get buffeting and the screen came back too far to ever tuck behind.

I just put on a ZG double bubble light smoke. I still get wind/noise but the airflow hits higher, is much smoother and no longer bats my head around like a ping pong ball in a tornado.

cperson 02-26-2008 06:26 PM

I was hoping to reduce or eliminate the wind blast of wind at the base of my neck which
creates lift and tries to tear the helmet off my head at highway speeds, makes a loud jet-like noise at highway speeds, and on cold mornings can freeze my chin. I think the helmet design may have something to do with it too. I hear (no pun intended) the wind nose complaint mostly from riders with full face helmets. I think wind is less directed with the 3/4 or open face type - more of a general head-on blast. I've been wearing earplugs on rides more than 20-30 minutes at higher speeds. It's just too fatiguing without them.

Hawk9807 02-26-2008 07:18 PM

Being 6'3" tall i found that the Zero Gravity Sport Touring screen works pretty well. Does good at highway speeds and higher, and it's easier to tuck in behind. just my .02 cents.

VTR69 02-29-2008 04:41 PM

ZG DB on mine. Works good.

E.Marquez 02-29-2008 06:23 PM

Puig double bubble,d, ark smoke fit was only ok,,, looks great.

+1

I have the ZG touring - its not that much bigger than stock & w/ deflection lip helps w/ wind Never a problem w/ it

nuhawk 03-01-2008 07:28 PM

I think the Puig is a good fit for riders under 5'10". Taller riders cannot tuck under the airflow. Shorter riders can look out the top of the visor and turn it up. The airfoil is very stable. The spoils over the screen go over the helmet at the same speed - in the same line.

The airflow is very even.

The fit on both my screens in two years was spot on.

I think the dark smoke is better looking than the lite smoke.
