undertail question?

undertail question?
I would like to put a aftermarket undertail on my hawk.
Does anyone have any suggestions for brand or company they have used.
I am looking for a very clean / factory look.
I would also like to see any pics of undertails you have used.

Re: undertail question?
I got mine from pyramid. It's not too bad. I am thinking of getting something else though. I have seen undertails that look similar to a R6, withthe dual round lights.
Mine didn;t come with the rear turn signals. I just mounted them there for state inspection. I also have the tail light integrator, so the turn signals are just a extra amber set so I don't get rear ended.
Hey everyone, check out my ***....

Rumbleimport was the one I was thinking about getting. I looks pretty clean but I don't know about the quality.
The other I have seen and don't really like to much.
The reason I have this one is that I got it very cheap.
If you do get a Rumbleimport one, post up so we all know the fit & finish.

Doesn't look too bad. I do like the swingarm spools that he added. I'd like to do that if I can find a good aluminum welder. The standard swingarm stand with the paddles that go under the swingarm, sketches me out sometimes when I lift the bike up.
Maybe I'm just paranoid about it falling off the stand.
Although I'd have to buy a new rear stand.
Would be nice though.
So JB are you going to go for it?

Re: undertail question?
Wow, Ive seen that on ebay, but never a pic of one on an actual SH. I really like it. Does it involve any cutting of the stock one? Or just plain old removal and install?

Re: undertail question?
I have that one pictured on the blue bike. It came on my used 98 so I didn't install it. It does require cutting out the stock piece but leaving the area around the battery tray.
Negative: The small circular lenses require mini LED's that I found too weak for my tastes. I made some extensions from PVC and matched painted them to allow for traditional size bulbs. I now run twin 27(?) red LED bulbs which are VERY bright. I think the turnsignals which are even smaller than the mini brake light LED's are nearly useless. There's a gap area where the under tail and the battery tray meet but I didn't install it so I don't know if this is normal. I have plans to fix this.
Positive: Besides the clean looks, it allows much more room under the seat. I now carry a large car size can of fix-a-flat, tire repair kit, extra gloves, towels, and the OEM tool kit (same place) with room to spare. It seems to be a good quality and reasonably strong. Hidden key lock location is nice and has posed no problems so far.

AACCKKK!
I bought that hideous beast! Glad I didn't pay no where near that price too!
Here's a couple pics of the rear after I painted it (first thing I did too!).

Re: undertail question?
JB,
Oh I like it. It's just not perfect by any means. I really, really like the extra room. I'll try to remember to shoot some pics of the inside and the problem gap I referred to.

Re: undertail question?
Ok,
I got the undertail and installed it this weekend. The final product looks good, but i had one hell of a time with the install.
The "detailed" instructions would be better used for TP. they basically told you to install the undetrail.
I also have to call because the one of the LED lights doesnt work.
not to mention the month wait for the tail itself....
but other than all that... here are some pics.

Re: undertail question?
Could you post a couple of pics of the area that needed to be cut under the seat? I bought one off E-bay from a private sale, and didn't get instructions. I've E-Mailed Rumble twice and didn't get a reply.
Thanks,
Doug

Re: undertail question?
give me your email and i can send you the instructions. not that they are any help.
if you look at the pics I posted early, they give a good look at what you need to cut..
cut just behind the mounding bolts on the frame. there is a good pic of this on the beginning of this post

Re: undertail question?
Hi guys,
Here are some pics of my bike, with the new Mototeck undertail ( www.mototeck.com )
I will let you judge by yourself but IMO, this is the best one for the VTR.
All is include with; turn signals, licence plate holder and license plate light ( see red circle on pic #3 ). the turn signal as well as the license plate light are LED and this last one is blue and its lighten enough to keep the cops away and also not enough to see the plate number from far away ( much pratical if you ride as me )
You can also see a small kink on the bottom of the license plate, this is because when you are doing duo with your fat girlfriend or doing too much wheelie ( like in my case ) the plate could hit the tire the solution is to bend a bit your license plate, that its.
I have also some pictures of the installation which is, in overall, pretty simple. email me if your are interested to get all of them.
Cheers

Re: undertail question?
That looks good, especially with the hugger. I like the fact that the turn signal are not housed with the brake light too. Do you have some pics from further away so we can get an overall look at the bike with that installed?

Re: undertail question?
For complementary information's my hugger is a Pyramid and I'm very not satisfied of it. Maybe I can post more pictures ( if it will finally work) but as you can see in the first one, the chain guard part of the hugger is very not align with the chain so I always get a lot of oil chain on my tail and undertail and that very **** me off!
Now, I'm keeping my money for my suspension mods ( CBR1000RR complete front end and a rear shock ) but as soon as I have finished this, I will be seriously thinking to replace it. 150$ ( CDN) in the carbage but I'm very tired to clean my tail with oil cleaner!!
For my undertail, I like it SOOO MUCH!!! It make a nice look especially with my clear rear lens and the LED brake light that, by the way, also come from Mototeck and at a very good price... maybe I will have to ask them some money for this free pub!!

Re: undertail question?
Damn, I bought one of those but they didn't send mounting instructions. It looks really nice but I did major mods to fit it. the way they set it up looks a lot easier!

Re: undertail question?
Go to their website on the VTR1000F undertail section: http://www.mototeck.com/index_fr.html?fData=BST=0.00
There, you will find ( a simplified!!!) installation procedure, but like any other undertail, this is sure you will have to cut and trim some part of the bike to install it.
For myself, I did not follow their instructions, I've cut almost all the rear part of the plastic inside the sub frame assembly and I've make a new one with some plastic sheet and then I got some flat space ( no more bump for the tool place, etc ) and I've fit a plastic container lock'n lock type ( buy at Wall-Mart shame on me ) which is water scealed.
This is ONLY ONE idea of installation procedure, you can follow your way if you would like, but in overall this is not too much difficult, all you have to do is to TAKE YOUR TIME, to do it right.
Good luck and enjoy!
