Roger Ditchfield told me they ran all the 3/4" and 1" coolant piping down to the V, and made a "coolant rail" that sat in the V with multiple spigots to catch each coolant line.

Good work! Keep it coming...

I have arrived at the same conclusion' deep down in the V is the easiest place to put the "Rail" as it is closest to the original position and will allow for short hose runs.

I am currently putting the bike back together so I can ride it this weekend.

Will probably start this again in the next fortnight or so.

I was thinking we could Tee off the rear cylinder coolant hose, and over to the sensors, so we wouldn't have to lengthen any wiring... What are your thoughts on that?

So I have secured the bottle, ran the overflow and started putting her back together.

I do like the look without the original coolant bottle.

It's very untidy in the V with hoses, choke cables, remote vac lines etc.

I will start looking around auto wrecking yards to find a coolant pipe that I can modify to do the job. These places are great for that stuff.

I want to mount it as low as possible in the V and then make up a blanking plate to hide the rail that the coolant pipes go into, sort of like a false floor.

A lot more work than I first envisaged, but hey it should be worth it in the end.

Another stealth mod that only VTR nuts will understand.

Here is how she stands.



If you look hard you can just see the bottle in the tail.

I like where you guys are going with this project. The false floor is a neat idea.

On a side note, when I was doing the testing with our coolant overflow bottle, the amount of coolant that is displaced with a completely stock cooling system was only ~4 fl.oz.
I have recently run into more than one person that has run thier coolant systems just a little bit low, to completely eliminate the need for a coolant overflow. None of them had issues with overheating. These were all I4 engines, if it makes any difference. Now that would tidy things up. I personally wouldn't eliminate it, but just thought I would throw it out there.

Only 4 ozs that's reassuring!

I will try and hit the Auto wreckers this weekend.

Might get lucky and be able to scrounge the piping that I need.

An extra thermostat housing will get you just about everything you need except a main pipe section...

I'm interested to see what you come up with for a "false floor"... My first thought was that I didn't really care to have one, but then I began wondering what it would look like... May be neat.

I had also considered tying the front cylinder's 3/4" spigot to the 1" radiator hose before heading down into the Vee (to only have one pipe going downward on both front and back), but not sure whether that is just semantics.... maybe it doesn't matter.

So i've had a couple different thoughts on this, and am wondering which way you're gonna go... Are you thinking of running long vertical apigots up to the existing hoses, or make a short rail and run hoses up to the existing spigots?

My first thought was as few hoses and joints as possible.... What are your thoughts?

Not sure at the moment.

I have a new visitor to the cave that is a bit distracting .

I am however leaning towards hoses and rail in the V..






Should be fun getting to know this beast!

Mate, it's under heavy surveillance with cameras, alarms, not to mention a bloody big baseball bat.
I have great neighbours who are motor sport enthusiasts and they keep an eye on the place as well!

Going to some auto wreckers this morning to try and scrounge some bits for the VTR.

I'm going for a ride tomorrow and yes I am taking the VTR as it is the all time favourite!

Faark,

Just took this thing for a ride, it's got some *****!

VTR sounds better though!

Brakes are insane, suspension needs a tweak!

Early days!

Went to the wreckers today, found some bits that may do.

Gotta pull the VTR down again before I make my mind up on what will do as far as coolant pipes from cars.

I can see a fair bit of fabrication work heading my way.

Stay tuned.

Kenmoore... Any ideas why the water pump cover has two hoses coming from it? What I mean is: It seems as if the one hose feeds the bottom of the thermostat housing, which then feeds one of the carbs, which then goes to the second carb, which then returns back to the water pump cover... Is this correct?

If so: Why is the thermostat housing involved in this at all? I know our thermostats are double sided, they have an upper element and a lower element, but I'm still trying to figure this system out...

Also, it would see that the water pump would be trying to feed both the small hoses leading to the thermostat housing and to the carb... Am I misunderstanding this?

In the interest of keeping everything nice and clean in the Vee, and eliminating all un-needed stuff, I've been trying to think of a way to get rid of all this extra hose, like perhaps by Teeing off the thermostat housing delete rail, and eliminating both hoses off the water pump cover...

Thoughts anyone?

My research indicates that the thermo cuts of the water to the carbs at a certain temp.

As I have no thermo and have run this way for a long time without any detrimental effects I intend to keep all the hoses.

It's so long since I did the pump I can't remember what I blocked off.

When I pull her down again I will take pics and let you know!

I reckon about two weeks.

Sorry for the delay, too much going on and a holiday in March won't help.
