Alright guys, here are some pics of the latest state of my bike. I made the subframe, and powdercoated it of course, myself, and made the seat. I also fabbed up my exhaust, and mounted a new muffler and strap. I know this isn't for everyone, but I'm the one who has to ride it. The back is reflective because frankly I like the way it looks AND it tell people to get the fuck off my ass when I ride at night. It's pretty damn visible... The seat isn't pretty but it's comfy as hell and form fitted to my ass in particular. Like I said it ain't for everyone but I dig it. Let me know what you assholes think. Oh and disregard the heat wrap that looks like a candy cane... I had to unravel it a bit to make it longer, and I'm not about to pay 50 bucks for two foot of wrap...

Thats an awesome machine!

maverick 07-27-2009 06:49 PM

Sweet his first post was about me lol

lazn 07-27-2009 07:52 PM

Looks good! Only thing about it that I'd do different is provide some means of bringing a chick along with.. But a guy's guy like you I guess doesn't need chicks ;) lol

All kidding aside, I think this is an improvement from the already highly modded state you got it in.

steve.g 07-27-2009 08:07 PM

looks cool.........nice one!

gboezio 07-27-2009 08:07 PM

I like it !!
Got to love that exhaust tape and I like the touch under the muffler bracket so it won't scratch.
I hope that the single rad will cool enough, but testing is the fun part...right :D

L8RGYZ 07-28-2009 08:32 AM

Bet that b1tch is loud!

When you're good they'll come to you.

What are you using for guages and handlebars? Did you get custom length brake lines?

maverick 07-28-2009 12:17 PM

thanks guys! well it's a veypor computer, and just motorcross bars from the local motoparts store. I think they were around $14. And the lines are kevlar, and they were put on by the last owner, but he still had clipons so it's anyone's guess on the length. And yeah it's a bit loud. Here's a sound clip.

Great work, nice street fighter, can you let us know how it is running with the single rad(how is the temp?)Also how do you find the single muffler(same, better or not as good?)Thanks.

Everyone seems to like it

Personally, I think it looks like shit. But it sounds pretty good.

You did ask for opinions though and as long as you are happy, it matters not what I think

I think it's cool the same way I think the old BMW at my local home depot is cool-the guy covered the ENTIRE bike with flat black paint-EVERYTHING. I wouldn't do it myself and yeah it's ugly but I still smile whenever I see it.

I also would like to know how it runs with the single radiator. I am turning my '99 into a naked bike and I looked at putting the radiator with the fan behind the forks, but I did not think it would fit. Does the front wheel or fender hit the radiator at all when the suspension compresses?

I have already relocated the oil cooler to the same place you have, so no problems there.

finepooch 08-01-2009 11:12 AM

hahaha, like a pug, so ugly it's cute. not that your bike is cute, well, you know what i mean!

it sounds better than i figured it would.

i respect your rear safety reflector but the tiny led brake light has me scratching my head, and laughing.

your seat looks comfy, and pretty good. i made a seat for my rc51 and i know what's involved there. nice work.

maverick 08-01-2009 11:47 AM

Thanks guys. I'm telling you, the LED brake light is VERY bright. I'll try to get some good pics of it from behind so you can see. Also, unfortunately I had one can when I got the bike, so I can't give a good comparison, also, I never had a temp guage, but it seems to run just fine with the single radiator, i have never had it overheat (i.e. steam, or boiling over or anything)

And yeah fozzy it's pretty fuckin ugly, but do you wanna race? :P

Hahaha! My first thoughts exactly but that didn't make me like it any less.

It was inspiring in fact. I got the 'storm of moving the rear brake res (or just blow the rears completely) so as to route the exhaust up through there for an undertail exit.

A couple heat shields could make it look rad. Keep experimenting, as your skills improve - you will find new ways of making things work together.

Rock on!

seb421 08-08-2009 06:31 AM

that is fucking horrible, looks like you found it in a bin!

the rest of you should be honest too

JamieDaugherty 08-08-2009 08:54 AM

I love how that thing sounds. Thanks for posting the video clip!

supermatt996 09-05-2009 01:13 PM

The square tail and super long exhaust hanger (among other things) Don't work for me and I don't understand a giant reflector if a small single cheap led bulb just sitting there off center is your brake light. Turn signals/running lights for added safety, nah who needs those when you have a big reflective square. All rude belittling of a project I have no right to judge aside the thing sounds fabulous and the rad up front is nice assuming full functionality. If you like it screw everyone else and go riding... right after you put the vette to sleep

maverick 03-23-2010 08:42 PM

I'll have you know the light is both centered, and much, much more visible than a stock brake light. Also, if all you care about it safety, you don't belong on a motorcycle. Take the bus, it's got plenty of running lights AND turn signals for you.

HAHAHAHA that's awesome. I'd take it as a compliment. Maybe you should just slather everything in flat black-that should really piss a few people off ;)

maverick 03-23-2010 08:59 PM

I did! It's my new signature!

spladle160 03-23-2010 09:28 PM

you put a giant reflective sticker on your ass I figured it wasn't just for the look and I'd love to know the view angle on those leds

residentg 03-24-2010 01:29 AM

I'm diggin' the date on the photos - post apocalyptic.

JB

maverick 03-24-2010 04:33 AM

Well different strokes for different folks, and at the end of the day, I'm the one who rides this. This is what I like, even if you don't.

nath981 03-24-2010 06:32 AM

opinions are like assholes, thankfully everyone has one, but some of them stink worse than others. And this reminds me of Bobby Richardson, a fellow boyscout who told us about his physical examination experience. We were 12yrs old, camping in small cabins at spruce creek, trying to go to sleep and this crazy bastard won't stop talking. So he's talkin about this doctor grabbin his balls and then checkin his asshole. The Dr. said something like "looks pretty dirty back here". Bobby defiantly replies, "yeah, it's supposed to, that's where the shit comes out".

Anyway, opinions. honesty can be brutal, esp when it's unfettered.

your bike reminds me of a cross between the rat bikes of a San Francisco gang I saw a couple years ago on Superbikes and streetfighters. Interesting and makes a strong statement and it's nice to see the minimalist look. It's not pretty, but then it's not supposed to.

The main thing is that you like it and that it works and that's what I do. While it may be interesting to hear what others think, unless it causes you to re-think your own position, it is inconsequential in terms of how it affects your feelings/beliefs/actions. Speaking of which, how does the hawk work in this minimalist condition and do you have any obsevations and recommendations based on you experiences. When mine goes down again, and considering I'm able to rebuild it, I will head in your direction.

maverick 03-24-2010 08:17 AM

well I would say that my bike is probably a lot more comfortable than a stock bike. the dirty bars put you much more upright and make long trips much more bearable. Also, my seat, being custom suited for my ass, is pretty comfy. I lost a lot of weight as you can imagine so it's much easier to flick around. The single radiator cools just fine without all that damn plastic in the way. I do wish I had better guages, but thats probably my only gripe, and that's easily fixed. So it's quicker, lighter, more comfortable, and suited to my tastes. I would modify a brand new bike if someone gave it to me today.

oh and I suppose i lost some top speed with no fairing but thats not a big deal.

nath981 03-24-2010 10:48 AM

If you get by a moving or other company with scales, it would be interesting to see the weight since you put it on a diet. If it's more flickable now, I can't imagine the diff with lighter unsprung spinning weight.

NakedOne 05-05-2010 07:40 PM

Mav how did you mount the rad and does it work well with fork compression?

VTRsurfer 05-05-2010 07:54 PM

Yeah, that's what a Rat Bike should look like. Not my style, but it definitely fits the label. And I'm sure it's obnoxious loud, as it should be.

bjorn toulouse 05-05-2010 08:27 PM

Oh my. Tools and a lack of talent can certainly create some unusual results!

My sig line is usually directed towards the bling croozer crowd, but, boy howdy, it sure fits here!!

Poor SuperHawk. :(

Rex

NakedOne 05-05-2010 10:52 PM

hopefully I will be able to do the single one with Mav's help.........

slpcrf450x 05-06-2010 07:41 AM

If I wreck my bike I am going to do something like that to mine. I actually like the single side exhaust. The wrap doesn't do it for me but it sounds bad ass!

demartinoink 06-07-2010 10:17 PM

yea i like it. fully madmax. i dig the headlight.
