Photos of 6 Spoke Wheels On A VTR ... Who Has Them??

Before I commit to buying some 6 spoke rims for my VTR, I'd like to see how they look on the bike. Does anybody here have photo's of them installed on their bike?

mikstr 04-23-2008 06:21 AM

There are a few on this site that have them (900RR rear and 600F3 front), my PVM six-spokes should be on soon....

looking to maybe replace wheels. are the f3 or vfr front wheels direct replacement or how much modding is necessary? Rear?

inderocker 04-28-2008 10:43 AM

I believe they are direct replacements.

superbling 04-28-2008 12:17 PM

Front: F3 and 94-97 vfr bolt right on, no mods. 98-present VFR 800 might have slightly different rotors but I don't think so IIRC. Check a brake catalog (EBC).

90-93 vfr should also bolt on but use a different rotor carrier so you'd need those rotors too.

Rear: 900rr bolt right on. I'm not sure about the RC51. It might need mods (6inch width).

Kind of a tired thread, but...

Perfect, I'll take mine in white please. I'll be doing this mod over the winter, just waiting on my bonus check in October. They look good.

Yeah. I was going to do them in white too, when I paint the SH white this winter... One tip, get a dollar store dishwashing brush for cleaning them, especially the rear... Unless someone else has a better idea for getting inside the inner spokes?

Do have pics??

handkaudio 09-20-2008 06:42 AM

So do the front and rears off the F3's and the 900RR work on the hawks??

smack doogle 09-20-2008 08:27 AM

The CBR f3 front bolts right up. CBR900RR rear bolts right up. If I remember correctly the 94-97 VFR front also bolts right up. Ebay usually has lots of CBR900RR rears listed but the front wheels are tough to find, especially for cheap.

Are you still thinking about doing the 6 spokes?? Im seriously thinking about it now, there are about 7 900rr rears on ebay right now.

I'd stay away from FRONT 900RR rims... I believe they are 16 inchers, not 17.. it will definilty change the way your bike handles.

J is correct the front of the 900RR were 16 inch. they made for a real twitchy front end.
It was the biggest complaint for the CBR

Still not sure... almost seems like a waste of money now.

Ya, its a waste of money in a way, you only gain cosmetic gains. I love how they look though, im tired of seeing 3 spoke wheels everywhere.

blackvtr 02-04-2009 02:08 PM

what about a f3 rear rim? would that fit?

inderocker 02-04-2009 02:11 PM

too narrow.

revhead1957 02-04-2009 04:57 PM

Is there any weight difference between 3 and 6 spoke?

inderocker 02-04-2009 06:49 PM

My rear 6 spoke rim weighs in at 15lbs 13.5oz with the bearings still installed
No tire, weights, valve stem, cush drive or rotor.

The bang for the buck is to do the 900rr rear and leave the front stock. The fronts are so hidden by the rotors they are just in the backround. The rear is much more exposed.

I run after market rotors in the front so when I put the 900rr on the rear (it's on the shelf) it's gonna be sweet.

I've squared off the current set of Powers in about 3k miles. City driving is hell - hehehe! This might be a good time to do the wheel switch. The bearings are pulled and it's ready for paint. Prolly going to be Italian Red.

nuhawk 02-04-2009 08:22 PM

I think the rear is slightly heavier from the 900rr but the front from the cbr is significantly heavier. That's what I didn't like about the fronts switch.
