New wheels baby!

well, I just picked up a 900RR rear wheel and a 600 F3 front wheel...woohoo!!! Looking forward to installing them :)

captainchaos 07-11-2007 05:39 PM

Cool, like what I've got-900rr rear, sp1 front. Show some pics when you mount them up...

mikstr 07-12-2007 08:33 AM

Well, as Fate would have it, I won't be getting the F3 front wheel. Seems the seller's girlfriend sold it without his knowledge so he has reimbursed me my money (eBay/PayPal). Damn......

superbling 07-12-2007 08:49 AM

94-97 vfr will also bolt on using VTR rotors. 90-93 and 98-present VFR's will also bolt on but use different rotors respectively (same diameter but different mounting points). Good luck in your search.

Mik vfr nc30 front will bolt right on no messing about.

mikstr 07-12-2007 09:28 AM

Thanks gentlemen :)

And so the quest resumes.....

MarineHawk 07-12-2007 09:29 AM

Ok, so enlighten a modding newb to the point of using different wheels, please?

mikstr 07-12-2007 09:47 AM

Well, not everything has one purpose, so I thought I'd check. :)

SlowHAWK 07-12-2007 10:36 AM

Basically so you can add it to your signature!!!! hahahaha.

mikstr 07-12-2007 10:40 AM

Be nice now, lol Actually, I have no room left in my signature so it will be an incognito mod... so there! :)

mikstr 07-12-2007 10:41 AM

Question: will the stock VTR rotors fit on an F3 front wheel?

One more: I noticed in the EBC catalogue that they make a kit to move the calipers out to accomodate a 320 mm rotor for the F3. Anyone know if this kit could also be used on the VTR?

cheers

superbling 07-12-2007 01:54 PM

yes, the f3 rotors will work. As a round about way of proving it, I have an F3 wheel/rotors on my 96 VFR.

Don't know about the ebc kit.

mikstr 07-12-2007 03:05 PM

thanks :)

superhawk22 07-12-2007 07:56 PM

Isn't that kit about as much as a new front end though?! Last time I saw that kit it was almost $800 if I remeber correctly, just curious, how much was it? Oh and F3 rotors are a direct swap, I had one before the front end swap.

mikstr 07-12-2007 08:19 PM

I never got to looking at price of the kit to be honest. I must confess that I began thinking that it would likely be cheaper to do the front end swap.... I guess great minds think alike. It is also one of the reasons I am having mixed feelings about getting the F3/VTr front wheel, perhaps that $$$$ would be better spent on a new front end. So may options, so little money... lol

superhawk22 07-12-2007 08:22 PM

 Yeah it adds up quick beleive me.

You can use those wheel/rotors with an F4i front end and gain larger 43mm tubes/triples and additional compression adjustment. Just like most USD units, the stock f4i springs are too weak for the vtr but the fork length is longer than most USD so that eliminates quite a few issues.

I'm ran this setup on superbling AND am now running it on my RCBVFR:

Sweeeet looking ride there Bling. You know, I don't think too many of us would be upset if you chose to post a few more pics and listed your mods. Yes, I am giving you permission to highjack my thread (or start up a new one)

cheers

superbling 07-13-2007 07:21 AM

No need to jack, I have one on it you may have missed. I just updated it with new pics:

Anybody know if CBR wheels are lighter?

Tweety 03-30-2010 10:49 AM

The newer 3 spoke wheels from CBR1000/600RR are significantly lighter than stock, but needs a 25mm axle, so they are only a viable option for people doing front swaps...

As far as I know, the older 6 spoke wheels are roughly the same weight as stock, or only slightly lighter, but that could be wrong... Could anybody with more accurate info on this chime in...?

mikstr 03-30-2010 11:21 AM

I believe this has been covered in a few prior threads and the 900RR rear wheel was just slightly heavier (@ 0.5 lb)...
