'99 VTR1000F tank

Hi people,

Just got to say, great site. Found a lot of useful information both cosmetic and performance wise. Just ordered a BMC air filter along with a Factory Pro config 30 jet kit. Gonna be sweet. Later, heading for devil slip-ons.

My question:

Will a newer model VTR tank (2001+, i think), fit my '99 VTR? I know at some point that the tank increased in size but I can't remember what year. So, is it possible?

Thanks

Welcome aboard!

The US tanks stayed the same size throughout the SuperHawk's run. I don't know about CDN-spec VTRs. The UK VTRs received an upgrade (one or two more liters...sorry, litres ) in 2001.

Right on,

I have the firestorm model, the one with the smaller tank. So there is a good chance that a newer tank will work on my '99. A one with more litre capacity.

The tank never changed capacity in Canada or the US. Its only Europe that got the larger 19l tank

I believe our friends Down Under also got the larger tank.

Yes you are right they do fit. I think 2002 models got the 19l tank. Very popular mod in Australia, so almost impossible to get a second hand one. I gave up and bought a new one.

Outside of the tank is the same, the underside is a different shape, giving the larger capacity.

Shaggy is that you?

There was always some discusion as to whether the larger tank bikes recieved a smaller airbox. T or F?

Dunno who Shaggy is......

My info is that the airbox is the same. I am yet to re-assemble the bike so we shall see for sure when that happens, but for the moment looks ok to me.

No worries, there was a lister on Greg's old site that went by Shaggy, I thought he was in your corner of the globe.

Thanks for the info though.
