I want to wait until mine is complete before I show it again so I can relate to the picture shyness..... |
Tweety,
I really, really, really like your bike. Your suspension mods are first class and in my opinion will transform a great engine/moderate chassis/cheap suspended and braked bike, into a very competent machine. Its the kind of bike where I would use Jesus as a brake marker, ride hard till you see Jesus then BRAKE!! Enjoy it..... |
WOW! How hard was it to get the swing arm on there? I would love to do that. I can't stand the SH swing arm.
|
So close last month! i am throwing the hat in the ring again!

All tough it should be noted that I re-welded a mount on mine unnecessarily, I figured out the "bolt-on" later...

S**t Howdy, Tweety has my vote now!
|
tweety, you are the mad, manic, modding machine. Hell a few more mods and it won't be a hawk anymore. Then you'll have to leave us and move onto the "Unofficial OCD Forum For Those With No Impulse Control".
|
Actually as I was taking those pictures out on the lawn my father was sitting with a cup of coffee just outside the shot, trying to figure out what I had left stock so far...
He came up with a rather short list... The fairings, the radiators (they are stock, only moved them), the tank (on the to do list) and a fair part of the engine block (also on the to do list)... If anyone can think of more parts let me know... I lost count... ;) The Swedish VTR forum/club gave me dispense to be in the club all tough there are less VTR parts than others, just cuz they want to see my next crazy idea...;) |
Ok, since I got my stuff painted, I will give this a go.

Looks a bit out of place on the VTR to me... |

Hmm... Those diodes up front, how are they used? as low beam or as position light? or just by an on-off switch?

They are used instead of the side light plan to remove the side light and smooth it over. Best bit is a grand total of £5 to do the mod.:D
BTW those indicator LED's on the mirrors... Are these the one's you have used... http://www.radiantz.com |

BTW those indicator LED's on the mirrors... Are these the one's you have used... http://www.radiantz.com They don't just flash they start at the inside of the mirror and light one at a time to the end then start again like a Knight rider type effect. Got noticed a lot. |
Nice bikes all.
But Tweety, that is a sweet project, right there! |
While I am tempted to vote for RedVTR's bike (red? what?) just because he's got stock signals (and I thought I was the only one), and I'm tempted to vote for VTRSteve's cause it's cool, I have to go for Tweety's bike - so many mods that, if I could swing it, I'd do to mine. Nice bikes all, tho.:draggin:

Congrats to VTR Steve for coming in a close second and considering the list of Tweety's mods, that's truly respectable.
|
+1 to that.
Steve I love the tail section and exhaust. Very innovative. Not wild about the headlight. But having ridden one with stock suspension, back to back with mine, there was simply no comparison. They were completely different bikes. I just wanted mine back. I don't know how much a swingarm swap helps with the soft chassis on the VTR, but it definitely adds to the visual appeal. |
Nice goin' Tweety!
I didn't see your rearsets mentioned in the otherwise thorough list of mods ... did I miss it? Your swingarm mod makes stock look weak. :( |
:congrats:
|
Thanks all! Glad you like the result as much as I do!
And nope... I'm not even close to done with it... I have a long list of idea's... It takes hard work to keep up with that list... It keeps getting longer every time I look at it...

Your swingarm mod makes stock look weak. :( Yeah, I should probably clarify that, you aren't the only one asking... I only listed them as "custom"... ;) The rearsets are cheap eBay one's for the CBR 1000RR that are adjustable... I basically used their CNC'd aluminum parts and scrapped all the substandard bolts and replaced the cheapo ball bearings with nice sealed one's... And since I won them at $6 + $11 in shipping that still came out way cheaper then any other option... Then I made myself a pair of adapter plates which bolts on to the swingarm pivot like the OEM rearsets with matching bolt pattern for the CBR rearsets... When I get the time and inspiration I'll make the CNC data for the plates... Then anyone that wants to can have a set made and use any CBR compatible rearset... Yeah, the swingarm is nice... ;) And it's much lighter in it's construction than the old one... I cant remember the numbers right now but it add's only little over a kg in weight... And it does make a definite difference in stability... ;) All tough if anyone wants to do that mod... Start by getting a height adjustable rear shock... Either DIY as mine or an Ohlins... Without it you'll run into problems... |
