Talking Official Owner

Hi all! After researching "sportier bikes" (as compared to my 97 Magna and 93 Shadow) I finally settled on the Super Hawk about six weeks ago and the search for one at the right price began.

I have been riding now for just over 10 years and as of this past Saturday and a few hours of driving, I am the official owner of a 2003 model courtesy of a Craigslist find and a great former owner. Tags and titles done Tuesday and the maiden voyage yesterday afternoon.

Quick status update:
2003 Super Hawk, 9,750 miles, was from just outside Baltimore, MD
Devil Exhaust, Frame Sliders (unknown brand), smoked windshield, rear undertail kit and lights. Well taken care of by previous owner and it shows.

A few pics from the shop in the attachments.

Thanks for being such a great group of people on the forum, this was also part of the reason I settled on the Super Hawk. The selfless help and quality of information here is a great fraternity to be a part of.

Cheers and happy riding!

Welcome. Very nice bike, particularly the undertail and taillight. I've never seen one like that before.

+1 - That tail light setup looks nice.

Congratulations on the new bike!

Welcome to the forum.

Nice bike!

FYI: those look like T-Rex frame sliders.

Thanks, no markings on them so that's a start and much appreciated to your keen eyes!

I have been watching Twist of the Throttle II and getting inspired. A little more road time to get accustomed to cornering with it and count me in for VIR.

The running and brakelights are high intensity colored LED, while the turn signals look to be a standard bulb in amber. I did some investigating yesterday after the ride as I noticed the right rear turn signal stopped working. Unscrewing the holder on the inside (under the seat) and then back together seemed to get it working so I will keep an eye on it in case it becomes an ongoing problem (ie loose connection).

The signals also blink faster as they do not have any aftermarket relays to adjust this (mentioned in some other great threads here). Outside of that I really like the clean look it has to the rear.

Short term to-do list:
Fabricate a small stainless steel license plate holder for the rear (where the Honda sticker is placed now in the pics above) and I should be ready for inspection. Crossing fingers as one compadre said the rear lights require the cover to be colored (ie Red and Amber) not just the bulbs themselves. Need to confirm for Va req's.

Mid-term to-do list:
R&R, New Chain, CCT, Front Fork adjustment (after I get used to how its riding to be able to compare, I am 6'1 and 190).

Well here is a pic of my bike (pre other mods) taking a nap on it's T-Rex sliders:

The white lettering that says T-Rex around the end of the slider is a sticker that comes off way too easily.

Take that off and they'd look very similar to yours.

The bike was just tired from a long day's ride and needed some rest.

LoL, actually as Denotslaer suggests: I was testing the sliders out right after the install.

Damned, I wish somebody had let me know you could test them while stationary. Are you SURE that constitutes a true test?

Well... It's the first test... If it fails don't do the test with a run-up...

I tried that one, after skipping the first... I got scratches...

But otherwise fine...

damn that is one fine hawk, looks super sharp in blue.
lazn, You need to tell your bike to lay off the brew.
As far as crash testing the T-Rexs, the previous owner of my bike did just that and everything was ok, just a bent mirror extender and slightly bent chin fairing bracket.

If I recall correctly in VA (just moved from there) the lights do have to be red if they came that way. A lot of inspectors will overlook that though as long as they are bright and colored properly.

just fabricated up a license plate holder, followed by a 75 mile test ride and its all aces.

Now for the state inspection. Has anyone done any good modification or have a suggestion for placement of the inspection sticker? Putting this on the front forks (which are going to be switched in the near future) is not my first choice.
