My VTR...

Hallo, my name is Flavio and i'm an italian fan of VTR. Excuse me if some speeches are uncorrectly, but i write whit my little english and the help of a translator...

I've buy a '97 VTR-F some months ago, and I decided to prepared it only for track.

my bike is much changed compared to
original, but still have much work to do on it...

the fairing are derived in part from the SP, are made in
carbon, and the tank is derived from Aprilia RSW250 (GP bike), and it's made in composite (kevlar+carbon)
The air-box is self-made, and have a very big capacity. In the photo you can see the full air-intake system.
The wheel are a couple of Marvic magnesium, and the front brake disc are a couple of Brembo Racing (I buy it from a italian SBK team, because are not in commerce)
My work are in progress, last night i've finish to mount the fork (a Showa from Ducati 998s whit ohlins internal mod) and i'm waiting for a complete exhaust system by Rumi. I've to mount a Starlane electronic quick-shifter and a GPT 3d instuments (for tachometer, RPM, lap-time, temperature, ecc...)

Now i post some photos, the first are old and now the bike was disassembled in many parts... but I really want to finish soon by bike!!! Ah, the colour is not red/yellow, i've make a new painting for the fairing in black/white whit carbon fiber visible...
...advice and comments are very welcome !!!!

I like the oil cooler mounts made out of the stock chin fairing mounts and that is a wild looking flywheel Attachment 6645

What triple clamp are you using?

kai ju Jul 11, 2009 08:44 PM

First of, welcome to the forum.
Secondly, I had to look at the pics several times to catch all the details.
The frame stiffener behind the steering neck, the airbox that uses the underside of the fuel tank as the lid, the rear sets, the list goes on. Nice work.
You said that you made the airbox, did you also make the rear sets ?
You might find some buyers for those over here.
You also invited comments. I have two. I hope that the battery will be replaced with something more current ( pun intended ) and with your fabrication skills I would redo the oil cooler lines because a hose clamp holding the hose to the hardline is out of character for this bike, not to mention that it might not hold up to 70 psi.....

Nice bike, can't wait to see the rest of it.

You have done some good work. Well done. I like your airbox. I will need to make one myself eventually.

air box requires a CNC bracket at the rear of the chassis to mount the tank and airbox, and the chassis was modified with different internal reinforcements and cutting the central beam. is not easy to mount on other bikes without other changes.
tubes of 'oil, true, should be modified...

Triple clamp are the original of ducati 998s.

I'm sorry, but i hav'nt understand using the google translation...:(

What's the rear set? What's KAI?

FireRescue Aug 9, 2009 01:07 PM

Rear set is foot pegs + brake and clutch pedals. KAI is Kai Ju, a member on this website

Rama Aug 9, 2009 02:27 PM

Oh, thanks!

The rear set is home-made from router machine...

Now I have at my home a home-made exhaust from Team Rumi... and waiting a lateral steering dumper... but the bike is again totally disassembled!
I've make the re-timing of the cams in the front and rear cilinder, but now i'm thinking about the higt compression pistons...

Moto Man Aug 10, 2009 09:30 AM

Santo merda! That's incredible looking!

Rama Aug 10, 2009 10:52 AM

Rama,
Sorry to hear you are having electrical issues. I think your project is awesome, if I may make a suggestion, I think you're posting you problem in the wrong area.
You are posting in members rides, I think you would get many more responses if you started a new thread stating your issue in the technical discussion area.
I'm a reletively new superhawk owner and do not have a lot of technical experience with our bikes yet.
Have you tested the regulator rectifier? Kill switch on? kickstand switch? the bike won't start in gear with the clutch pulled in if the kickstand is down.
Well.. thats all I can think of right now, but, I would start a new thread in the technical discussion area, you'll get lots of help there.
Keep up the good work, see ya in the technical section.
Dave

Collywog19 Jan 11, 2010 07:49 AM

Oh ok cool. I hope you get the electrics sorted.

What is it like to ride with rs250 rear shock? and is it modified to fit?

thanks

This shock was full-regolable, and whit a bush (?? I've translate this word whit google... i hope you can understand!!!) of 25mm I have change the the entire length... (and now the distance from the top bolt point and the low bolt point are the same like the original vtr shocks)

It's a good shock, expecially if you lighten your bike (near the weight of the RS...), but... the problem is: for every kg that my bike lost, I gain it on my belly (1 beer for 1 hour of work in garage on the bike.... and that's the results!!!)

So.... I need to change whit the ohlins shock (it can sustain me better...)

Ah, the Ohlins shock was stolen from a RSV R, is not for the SH...

Rama Jan 20, 2010 03:25 PM

A little update of my CNC triplee clamps...

From the paper, to ergal... a pics of the work in progress...

I have to finish some works in the CNC machine and next anodized... and tomorrow start the bottom clamp...
