Ooh la la! Looking good man! Really like the tail vents!

MisterMohawk 07-29-2007 09:13 AM

Looks great. Very clean. Whose fairings are those?

joshn569 07-29-2007 09:21 AM

sweeeeeeeeeet, those wheels look sick

drew_c14 07-29-2007 09:27 AM

Very nice indeed!

Besucher98 07-29-2007 10:00 AM

Very nice indeed! Did you do the paint job yourself?

nuhawk 07-29-2007 10:03 AM

Great build!

Bumblebee 07-29-2007 10:59 AM

Thanks to everyone that replied, not sure who the plastics are i got them on the bike unpainted and painted them myself, took a long time to get it right, Im not a body man.

Scooberhawk 07-29-2007 11:33 AM

If I had more time on my hands, I'd polish my wheels like those. Lookin good. Say, how's that seat for comfort?

Bumblebee 07-29-2007 01:43 PM

Its a lot better than it looks, I put about 150 miles on it today and was fine, I like having the room to slide forward and back. Makes for more comfort runing twisties.

Hawkrider 07-29-2007 04:45 PM

That is Mario Nava's work. Search his name and you'll find his website.

Hawkrider 07-29-2007 04:49 PM

Not sure about the tail though. If it's Mario's then it's a one-off. Might be Magical Racing...dunno.

Besucher98 07-30-2007 06:29 AM

Yeah, the rims are super trick, I like that! How is that done anyways?

Cleveland 07-30-2007 06:40 AM

That is way sweet.. I really like it..

Randman 07-30-2007 06:56 AM

cool bee...way to buzz...

996 07-30-2007 07:38 AM

Looks good ! What do you use to keep your frame, swingarm, and wheels clean ? I'm using the mother's powerball which works pretty good. I'm think about picking up the mini-ball to get into the tighter places.

Bumblebee 07-30-2007 03:35 PM

I do it by hand with mothers aluminum and mag polish, its in a little tub. I dont have to worry about scratchin the paint if i miss. And it gives me an excuse to get away from the wife and spend a little extra time with the bike.

Besucher98 07-31-2007 10:19 AM

Okay, but did you pay someone to get it to the exposed and polished look or can it be done at home? I've no experience in this polish aluminium stuff.

Bumblebee 07-31-2007 03:12 PM

Not sure the frame and wheels and swingarm were polished when i got it, so im honestly not sure just a lot of work to keep it clean

You pretty much start with sandpaper rough enough to take the old finish off quickly, and then through 3 or 4 stages of sanding with finer and finer sandpaper you get something nice and smooth and metally, and then you wet sand your ass off with 1000 grit and then 2000 grit, and eventually it just needs polish to be kept pretty. I'm trying to say it's a lot of work.

Bumblebee 07-31-2007 05:37 PM

Thanks for the info scooberhawk. I never knew how they did that, and I bet that is a lot of work. Im glad mine is already done.

captainchaos 07-31-2007 08:00 PM

Hey bumblebee, yeah polishing is a shitload of work, and it's a pain in the ass to keep up. It's not difficult, just hard work and very tedious and time consuming. If does look awesome when kept up but I would not recommend it on a bike that sees any regular use. I did a gsxr600-frame, forks, swingarm, subframe, and one of the wheels and that took me a almost a year to finish just all the polishing. It does get easier as you get better at it. The wheel lips are pretty easy because the metal is already smooth. Once you get thru the paint (probably wetsand it w/400 and 600/800)a little wetsanding w/1000 and 1500 and 2000 and some mothers and they'll look like chrome. The idea is the remove any scratches left by the previous grit. Until you do you don't move on to the next finer grit. It just requires patience and a decent eye.

spdrcr 08-01-2007 12:29 PM

Looks great I like the yellow.

Chitownson 08-01-2007 08:51 PM

Nice wheels! I did mine like that just the way described on this post. Only took me about an evening for each wheel to sand and polish. How did you mask of the two tone on the paint and get such clean lines?

azhawk1 08-01-2007 10:30 PM

looks like a duc 996 tail but extended a little very, very nice! really like the scheme of the whole bike, just maintenance from here on out.

Bumblebee 08-02-2007 03:50 AM

I never realized how much cleaning was involved, there are so many small spots that stick out like a sore thumb if you miss them. I try to do it once a week, agood cleaning for a bout an hour to keep up on it. But it is so worth it. This is the best bike ive ever owned.

B R 08-12-2007 06:14 PM

I like everything except the grips, please put some black ones on, just for my benefit :p .

Too clean... get out & get that thing dirty!

jamesvtr 08-13-2007 03:10 PM

nice bike that tail cowl really sets it off

supermarto 09-12-2007 07:34 PM

Didn't I see that bike for sale on ebay last month? Were you the one that bought it? Looks good, much better in your photos than on ebay, if it was that bike...

Aluminum should be clear coated once it's polished, that's what the automotive industry does with polished auto wheels... I think they actually use a clear powder coat, since paint won't stick to bare aluminum. Then, you can clean it with soap and water.

Bumblebee 09-13-2007 03:37 AM

No, Or atleast i dont think so. Ive had it almost 3 months now and i got it from a guy in winsted, ct. The part that sux is last week i blew a disc out in my back and cant ride anymore so when i get the title in the mail from the dmv its going up for sale. This really sux cause I really love this bike. Everything about it is perfect, The look, the ride, the sound, and i swear it was built for me cause I fit it perfect. But I will really mess myself up and not be able to walk if I keep riding..

MarineHawk 09-13-2007 08:00 AM

By the way, I believe that tail is a Metisse Predator...Anyone remember the blue "SuperDuc" that was posted on here? It had one too.

Sgt Rock 09-15-2007 02:36 PM

If your going to part that baby out let me know how much you want for the seat and tail section!

This is absolute SHIT! What the fuck happened??? This is as bad or worse than having a wreck. Are you finished for good? Are you going to have surgery or is that why you have to hang it up? I've kinda had that conversation with my doctors "If you're going to keep doing this, surgery is the only way." Ugly news. Either way!

What a beautiful machine. Worst case, take lots of pictures and store them away so when you talk about your Superhawk you can really show people how you made the bike not only unique but your own. All the best to you, Dude!

Bumblebee 09-16-2007 06:46 AM

Thanks nuhawk, the doc said when the disc blew out the main artery for my left leg got pinched between the bones, as of right now im looking at surgery but dont have insurance so it has to wait. Just sitting in one position to long my leg goes numb and takes about an hour to get feeling back. So he said if i ride and it compresses the artery too much i will have serious consiquences. So the bike has to go, maybe a few years down the road ill be ok to ride but for the time being there is no riding at all. So well see what happens. But dont worry, I will be back.

Jokers996 11-23-2007 12:47 AM

The seat looks like a Metesse Predator seat. I spoke with a company that used to carry them and they said they were discontinued

newb007 11-24-2007 06:32 PM

I realize this thread is probably old enough his bike is sold but I also had a disc rupture and had to have surgery. I'm just over a year from that surgery and riding my super hawk and loving it. I had so much pain before surgery I was sipping Loritab several times a night just to sleep all night long. The 45 min drive to work in a car became several 15 min drives with stops to get out, stretch, scream and punch the steering wheel because of the pain. I described it to most people as if you took a long rusty steel pointed rod and shoved it in through your hamstring at your ass and pushed it all the way down to your ankle. Yeah that about captures it.

I had the microdiscectomy surgery so I was in and out the same day. Spent three months fully recovering and about 6 months ago began riding motorcycles again. I do have to be careful about how I position my back and make sure I use my stomach muscles, but all in all, nothing anybody shouldn't be doing for proper riding position anyway. SO the moral of the story is, it is definitely possible to ride and take care of your back at the same time.
