Woke to this, rode to work
Woke to this, rode to work
Pretty crappy snow & ice storm had it raining at 26* yesterday. Layer of ice on tree branches.
Had to subway it yesterday but woke to this

Almost trained it but decided to ride. Had to go real smooth til I got to the main streets, but then only a few weird icy spots. For sure I had to NOT rush the ride but it went fine.
It was 26* and rising so mid 30s through the day.

Dear diary, I'm awesome. Rode in the snow today and minorly fractured some traffic laws like a boss. Gonna go logon to the forum now and dis some groovy powerbikes from the 80's that I'm secretly afraid of. Hugs and kisses, Joe.
that's what you call dedication respect !!!
i took my driving exam in -2 celsius and slight snow, damn thumbs getting numb only dont want to be on the road with the hawk because here they use salt to keep the ice away, so in winter i am using my ICE my gilera ice 172cc scooter with snow tires.

It was more the black ice threat I was worried about. You just have to stay in the tire tracks and plan way ahead to avoid sudden stops. Riding is still a blast even in winter. Just a different blast.
Getting sleet and freezing rain here now. I was just outside checkin' it out a bit and thinking, Dude was riding in this!? You are either pushing yourself because you're a die hard motorcycle nut, or you are just plain crazy.

I am concerned that the casual reader may believe I have been making fun at smokinjoe73’s expense or that Joe himself may have taken offense at my postings in his thread. I would like to state here that I meant no slight to Joe and apologize to him if he feels my comments were anything more than sophomoric comic relief to raise our spirits during this holiday season.
I, too, once rode in some crazy conditions and regularly made a 35 mile commute in sub-freezing temps at highway speeds on an unfaired bike. (a 1985 Honda Sabre V65 for those who have been paying attention) Alas, now I am too old, too fat and too big a ***** to keep that up. While I feel I have lost something, I can still relive those days vicariously through Joe’s posts of his daily adventures.
A friend once told me of an older guy who rode his Goldwing to work every day and even used tire chains in the winter. Another friend told me about a Harley guy who rode in crazy cold temps. When he asked him why he kept riding in the cold, the Harley guy told him there was a guy on a Goldwing who kept riding, so he had to. (not the same Goldwing guy)
Keep it up Joe - for all of us pussies.

It's not that we're pussies. NYC has ***** winters. Not that they don't have the odd ball snow storm once in a while, but nothing like we get. If Joe was living in my neck of the woods, there is no way in hell he would ride.
Lets see, snow accumulation in the past 6 days alone.
Sunday roughly 30cm(13in)
Monday another 5cm(2in)
Tuesday another 5cm(2in)
Wednesday, sunny
Thursday another 2cm(1/2in)
Today about 15cm(6.5in)
Now this is not including tomorrow and Sundays comming snow falls, which should be in the neiborhood of another 20cm(8-9in).
If I'm going to hold handle bars in my hands, they will be snowmobile handle bars
Plus, we have winter tire laws up here, so, I'm not allowed to ride
Don't look at me Bob Marley, I didn't shoot the sheriff.
I figure posting about riding conditions would fit on, I don't know, a motorcycle forum.?
Reminds me of instructing at Ducati days in Jersey. At lunch, the riders only wanted to talk about bling for the bikes, not riding (at a track day!)
So maybe this forum is dying of natural causes. A bunch of non riders talkin bling? How zany.

Man I know the feeling of riding in harsh conditions, my ride in the morning was an extreme 70* and they say it might get into the mid 80's before i leave. Damn florida and it's fridged temperatures.
