Who rides what for other bikes?

PJ,
77 RD350? Meaning a pre-76 350 in a 77 RD get-up?
If not you, who would you recommend for doing some mild RD400 porting & head work?

Present other bikes, in age order:
'51 Royal Enfield Bullet classic racer
'61 Honda 50 Stepthru
'64 Honda CB77 ("305SS" here, "Superhawk", believe it or not, in the USA)
'71 Yamaha TR3/R5
'73 Honda XL250 Motosport
'74 OSSA MAR250
'74 OSSA 250 Explorer
'77 Honda CB400/4
'77 Yamaha RD400
'77 Yamaha TZ350
'79 Yamaha TZ250
'82 Honda CB1100F post-classic racer
2003 Royal Enfield 350 Bullet (enduro-ised)
2007 XL1000V Varadero (SH dressed as a giant traile, with EFI)
2008 Suzuki DR650.
All these are good runners. There's some others being rebuilt and generally messed around with eg '71 Yamaha XS650 Trackmaster, enough to make a couple more TZs, etc.
I've owned something over 120 bikes in total, and raced another 30 or 40 for other people.
Cheers.

Nah, of the '77 Yamahas, the RD's a 400 and the TZ's a 350.
We built up another RD400 for Historic racing a few years ago, and snotted a few of the other TZs with it. The porting was fairly radical, much more than you're looking for, and designed to go with the expansion chambers we made for it and the big carbs, and huuuge reed valves (kept breaking them - ended up with a pair off Kawasaki MX bikes) - oh, yeah, and Yamaha Banshee pistons. Showed 59rwhp on the dyno, that one - standard chassis and suspension, so it weaved a bit in exciting places on the track.
Ooops - reminiscences, reminiscences. Sorry, your question:
We're way down the south end of the South Pacific here, so I'd imagine that you want someone nearer, and I have no contacts in the USA. There are good websites with porting specs for the RDs, though, if you have a Dremel and a hankering to try your own porting.
I always send my TZ barrels to Motrac Racing near Liverpool in England for re-Nikasiling, and I believe that they will do porting to suit individual requirements. There's a bit of shipping cost, but I've always found them reliable. (Beware of the random "expert" that some friend might recommend - unless someone has a widespread good reputation, don't allow them to mess with your stuff.)
Another tip - don't bother piddling about with the 400 heads - they've got this great big bowl that you end up filling in to get a decent compression ratio. But RD250 heads on the 400 barrels work well. They just look a little strange, as the finning does not come out as far. You really don't even need to do any machining, as I recall.

I try not to hate all you guys with a garage full of bikes, but it's hard!
Totalled my bird last Oct., but a good friend sold me this Kawasaki 636 streetfighter to take it's place:
It was a good deal and within my budget right now. I pick it up today.
Thing is he bought a KTW Super Duke to replace the Ninja, so the v-twin envy will be avoidable.

I'd like to hear how the the Kawi turns out w/o all the fairing crap on it. Looks small & light. I'm betting it'll be a blast to run through the canyons.

I bet nobody has one of these
This is what I had befor the SH. 1988 FZ750 (Yamaha) Mods-fzr1000 wheels, brakes, swingarm, and motor. Kehin Flatslides, dyna coils, 1029 bore, larger valves, port and polish head, high compression pistons, billet clutch basket, and whatever else I forgot. It was a nasty machine, 147 HP at the wheel. (I know new bikes come with these numbers but this was an 88)
oh yes, I had a CR250 as well. That was a fun bike!

Since mine is in the shop awaiting resurrection after getting rear ended, I guess I could count my wife's '07 SV650S.
Plus a 2010 Norton Commando 961 SE, if I had an extra 20 grand.
Oh, but I do have 18 surfboards (6'0" to 8'8") in the garage.

My other bike is an '81 Honda CT110. It's probably the punchline to everybody's joke, but I love it... been commuting on it for the past 2 weeks, still can't get enough.
There are plenty of bike I'd like to add to the garage, but the one that currently tops my list is a Honda XL1000V Varadero... too bad they don't offer them in the U.S.

Indie, what in the hell are you putting in the milk crate, I'm guessing kittens or daisys. A baguett and fine wine? How far are you riding that thing?
Really they are cool, better than a Ruckus 50cc. Open face helmet and scarf?.
What is your next mod?
Check out the VFR bags and trunk on the varadero. VTR engine if I remember right, retuned for driveability.
They get all the cool stuff, CB1000R, Varadero, they even made a motard like single 650 a couple of years back. Hey at least now we have the NT700 over here (deauville over there for last 10yrs) a real winner.

Yep, very pleased with my Vara. It's called the "Gravel Road Gold Wing" for good reason - all weather, all roads tourer, doesn't even notice a pillion until you corner real fast on a bumpy road.
PJay Wife says it's the best and most comfortable pillion she's ever been on, and she's done something over 300,000 miles as a pillion passenger on maybe 30-40 bikes.

Kittens! Hah, I love it! When my back gets better I'll toss the tackle box, tent and sleeping bag on the back and take her campng in the mountains behind my house. I've got some heavy duty fork springs and some new heavy duty shocks coming to me... soon she'll be fit for the billy goat trails.
