What's the best advice you have recieved or given?

Playing off of the "what's the dumbest" thread, what is some of the best advice given to you that you could pass on about riding. Or, some of the best advice you have given someone about riding?

Here's one: When I first met Nate, he said "don't try to keep up, just go with what you are comfortable with."

Some good advice, because some of us could get caught up in trying to keep up...

When a situation changes, do not abandon technique.

kai ju is an unknown quantity at this point
Realize that there are people slower than you, and faster than you.
Be smart enough to realize which is which and ride accordingly.

Learned in the classroom of hard knocks....

Keep the shiny side up and the rubber side down.

Look where you want to go.
Keith Code's list of panic reactions was very helpful too.

9/10 people suck at driving. rise up and beyond. be aware and use your bike as a defensive weapon. be a faster rider to avoid their stupidity

Got a lot and none of em originated with me. I have a lot to learn...

- Bend your elbows when going into a corner. Straight arms are like putting a stiff bar between the handle bars and the frame.

- Get off the bike. (cornering)

- Look where you want to go (worth mentioning twice)

- Use your stomach to support your torso, and not your wrists

- Dress for the fall, not the ride

- Sweat wipes off easy, skin is hard to put on

As a daily commuter in traffic, the one that I use the most:

Pretend that you're invisible.

If I do this, I find that I am rarely, if ever, surprised by anything that cages do.

It is Better to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission.

Also: Don't drink and bike. You might spill your beer.

Given to me by my God Father, "Stay single and just make the girls happy" I followed that advice.

Given by me to the young guys in the Department, "Stay single as long as possible and have all of your toys before you get married."
