What I am riding now

Hey Guys its been a while since I sold my Superhawk ...almost a year now. since then I have had a 03 R6 and just recently got a 04 R1. Wow the R6 was def. a change for the Hawk, it did not have the grunt and the cool exhaust tone but did have that top end rush, much more nimble of a bike too. Now I have the R1 and it has enough grunt down low and 155HP up top and still feels like nimble like the R6. Dont get me wrong here fellas the SH is still great for what its for! here is a pic of the new toy

sweet bike. How do you like the powerband? I only ask as 04-06 R1's had a reputation for being rather "cammy", or weak in the mid-range with a wild top-end rush.

well compared to my R6 it is not week in the midrange but compared to say a ZX10 or gsxr1000 yes the mid range is weak, but that is fixed with a full system which is on the list. the power is awesome on top though

I recall reading that someone (Graves maybe) makes a kit with longer intake runners which is supposed to help too.

I am on my second Honda (the other was a CR480R), all the others (DT100, XT250, XJ650 Seca, FZ750, DT200R) have been Yams (or piano bikes, lol) and have been 100% problem-free. I would gladly buy another Yamaha and if they had built a sporty v-twin (a decent one anyhow) would likely not have bought the VTR.

Although I haven't yet ridden anything from Kawi or Zook, it seems to me as though all these bikes are pretty awesome now (competition has forced tehm all to improve their game). Things such as excellent fit and finish are no longer the exclusive domai of Honda. In the end, we all win

03 R6 is a great bike. I've riden it alot, and can't find anything to complain about. Most of the faults are for Bike Magazine testers and Racers to point out. I think it's a great, easy(ish) riding bike that is reliable and not too finicky. I've riden an 02 and an 05 R1, I find the power useless on the street. Even on the track I have about 10 years of riding ahead of me before I am ready for it.

I think it's more fun to push a slow bike than dog a fast bike. Thats what drove me to the hawk, 1000cc's that I still feel like I am pushing at times

I couldn't agree more! The V power vs the inline is more than an engine. Some of us are good with 0 to near 100 in one gear. Those same of us are not likely to be good at 0-60 slugfest (can you shift fast enough) then ballistic to 150hp. I got Yamaha all over my garage but ain't gonna be no R1 in this house. These stupid squids using this kind of power in street situations are a box waiting to be filled.

Prolly some of both. This week is the Rep of Tex rally so bike parts should be cheap next week. I passed a guy this afternoon that had just got his SportsTur - poor bastard looked like a duck.

Either way, I got a hot rod to build. The last of goodies got here today. This wasn't supposed to happen this way but the alternative was bleak. Picures will be coming soon!

Beautiful R1...
But I must yell at you the obligatory obscenity: "TRAITOR!!!"
LOL, j/k

I think in a world where I had more money; I'd definitely have an inline liter bike, and the Hawk. Best of both worlds...

But I'd also have a late 90's Turbo Supra, Ferrari Enzo, etc. etc.

I like the aggressive look of the R1s, cool stuff. Too much bike for me but if you can handle it, more power to you! Enjoy it!

I can't deal with inline 6's....I feel like I'm sitting on a pocket bike most of the time. Used to have an '86 Yam Fazer FZX700 and prefer the power of a (fast) twin these days, but I still remember that rush of sudden power......kids have toned things down a notch for me.
