Weight of the Superhawk
I needed to weigh my bike to get accurate numbers with my Veypor gauge install. I was pleasently suprised to see that my bike was a little under the wet curb weight of 474 lbs. It was weighed with a bathroom scale which was spot on with an expensive scale at the doctors office.
My '98 Superhawk The rear was 232 lbs. The front was 231 lbs. For a total of 463 lbs. Note: besides being completely stock, my bike had a full tank of fuel, was de-PAIR'd, had the COP mod done, and a full baflectomy. It's also not a California bike With my 6' 3" 225 lbs. along with the bike, I now know why the suspension feels so...shitty. The front even bottomed out a couple 'a times just pulling slowly into a driveway. Poor bike. I was curious if anybody else has weighed thier bikes and what modifications were done, if any? |
nope here

NM i found it |
When you measured front and back did you prop the back wheel up so it was the same height? = bike level. it made a big difference on my SV.. I was trying to measure weight blance.. rider on bike % type thing.. found it was no where near 50/50.. more like 36/64, front to back.. but those numbers really changed when I ran the back tire up on a 2X6's to match the height of the scale. I wish I had a good old analog scale.. the digital would try to finish weighing when I was still trying to balance.. hard to get an accurate measurment

I've measured mine at 445lb with a half tank of fuel. I've not done anything to save significant weight, except maybe the Jardine slip-ons.

I should have mentioned that I topped off the gas tank before taking the measurements. My bike also has full plastic fairings and stock wheels. Jamie, what year is your bike? What wheels? |
Wow that's a lot lighter then I would have thought. Know I want to weight it,! Need some analog scales.

Yes, the bike was level.

What wheels? 98 Stock wheels. As mentioned, besides the pipes I've done nothing to reduce weight. Claimed dry weight is something like 423lb so I think mine is spot on where it should be. |
474 seemed a little porky, 450 sounds about right but I've never weighed mine so I frankly don't know..would like to though!

This is for the non-California model. If you have a bathroom scale, it's super easy. I just tip the entire weight of the bike onto the kickstand and then pickup either the front or rear tire. It's not as precarious as it sounds. It's extremely easy to balance. |
No argument here, just seems 49lbs for fluids and fuel seems high to me but again I have no empirical evidence, just my perception. Looks like it's time for me to buy 2 cheap analog scales!

You figure the fuel alone for a full tank weighs ~25 lbs. (don't get me into the weight of todays fuel lol)

3 Attachment(s)
I had to see for my self! yep!
Full tank of gas, brimmed! Two brother pipes.. Michelin Power 3's (new) 226 Front 239 Rear 465!! See for you self! Attachment 23535 Front Attachment 23536 Rear Attachment 23537 |

Yeah, why you guys weighing it full of gas? Dont you want to know the bikes weight not the fluids? So what, 465-25=440 right?
I was shocked to see that the new honda f6b wieghs 852. Makes the hawk look tiny. |

I have to get off my duff and get mine on a scale. Based on the curb weights listed by the mags (477-480 lbs), along with the weights of the replaced components (I try to weigh the OEM and new parts to compile the difference), I expect it to be at 400lbs wet , or lower.....

Besides your battery, how did you loose so much weight? I know you got a crap load of cool bits on your bike, but which ones had the biggest weight loss? |
I can't speak for Mikstr but my Marchesini wheels cut 14 lbs, the battery is probably another 4-5 lbs, that might get me near 400 lbs dry. I'll be interested in what he's done to get where he is.

I'm right at 401.5 with a full tank, ready to ride... I have had it lower, but my OCMD bit me in the ass, adding more fun parts...
On my bike, I have an alu subframe and fairing horn, as well as a lightweight battery, lighter flyweheel, you name it... And while the front end and swingarm upgrades are substantially beefier, they are also substantially less weight than stock parts... Along with lighter wheels, that's the main weight savings there, but all the little bits help... A semi updated list of mods are found in my gallery, click the image below... It was too long to list in my sigline, even when using shortened words... |
Would love to have your aluminum stay and subframe Markus. I have a Graves aluminum front stay that I will eventually get around to fitting (needs some cutting and welding as it`s designed for a race upper fairing with no headlight). The real place to lose, however, would definitely be with the subframe (not only for the nominal weight, but perhpas more importanly for the location high up and back)....
I have an itemized list of the weight losses and will post at some point, once I get the final weight results.... |

I bought an alum,. sub from a 900RR and was looking at adapting it. However, without a welder and right tools, it becomes quite difficult. Paying someone else to do it quickly get ridiculously expensive....... we`ll see.......
