Video of my very first north run on my VTR
Hey guys and gals video is processed and up on my site. Please excuse my mumblings to myself as I ride along at first. The beauty of the ride is at about 5 minutes or so in. If you have not made a North run then you are certainly missing out.

That was meant as irony... The only part of that video that had anything resembling a curve in it was the first, filled with driveways... And where you went "ooh, that's a tight..."
Well... If you go into a semitight sweeper, hugging the middle line, it will look a lot tighter than it really is... That corner was probably third gear, mid to full trottle all the way through if you had lined it up properly... At the very least, second gear good amount of throttle, even for a novice...
The reason those guys "go to the outside" and not the inside like you, is they prefer to stay in one piece... If you go outside-inside-outside through a turn, you get good visibility through the turn, and as a small bonus, you have control going through the turn...
If you keep doing the inside-outside line, like you do, you will end up outside the road pretty soon... Just saying...

This is my first ride on any kind of curvy road at all. I had fun and thats good to know about going outside. I have a problem with second gear on this bike. I get popped back into neutral at seemingly random times. At first I thought I was shifting incorrectly, but it now seems to happen even when I am mindful of the force I use to pop into second. I am taking her back to the place I bought her to have it checked out.

Clutch is useful here.. no need for it to slide around on you, just properly rev match and smoothly release the clutch. Even on a slick surface it won't wiggle if you do that.

Yeah, most of it... Got boored on some of the longer straights and tuned out, typing though... Missed your "oh ****" moment then... I honestly doubt you have a problem with the bike, but it's possible... At what time in the video did it occur? Most likely it is improper shifting, the 2 gear is clunky and done wrong on the VTR, it will kick you back to neutral...
You keep going "Oh sweet" after turns, I'm guessing you thing they turned out nice... And every time I roll the video back, I see you hugging the middle line halfway into the corner, wobbling around at half throttle... That's not only "wrong", it's actually pretty dangerous, especially with you following other more experienced riders at a pace that you probably shouldn't at your experience level...
I'm not trying to put you down here, just trying to keep you around a bit longer... There is a reason you should take a line through a corner that is the opposite of what you are doing... Go take a MSF course, or whatever course that will teach you proper cornering, (I'm not US based, so I dunno what courses do what/what names...MSF might be just low level basic stuff?)

How do you guys stay awake? The straightest roads I have ever seen!
Still it taught me one thing, the reason they sell H-D
Go find some Isle of Man footage...............It will show you all about the out in out stuff
Try this

And standard MSF is probably too basic for this.. Depends on the instructor. They used to have an "experienced rider" course that you could take after the basic, but I never took that course, just the basic.

oh yah I took the MSF in June. when I ride normally I stay in the center and dont go very fast. This was my first time finding roads curvy enough to practice going through fast. And no they did not go into much detail in the MSF basically, dont fall off and dont hit anything. Also dont run from the police. Which I have been true to ex:

Just a caution about videos.
I remember reading a few years ago that riders @ Deals Gap were getting pulled over and their videos were being use against them. Crossing the double yellow was the main thing they were getting busted for.
Just don't do anything illegal and you will be fine.
