Two stroke motorcycles

Hey everyone,

Do anyone have info' if the 2 stroke motorcycles actually ban in the US, restrictions or any other relevant info'?

I know they stopped selling 2 stroke motorcycles in 1992 and scooters right after that, but I cannot find any official documents stating a ban neither federal or per state.

Please advise

They did not meet federal emission regulations. SO not a ban on a particular brand or model, as much as overall regs that could not be met, so production was stopped for the US.

But still on the road

I have one single, twin and triple and they're more fun than any 4 stroke on a bad day

That is one nice 2 stroke. Hope you ride it hard and enjoy it!

If only BRP got off their collective duffs and served up a nice E-TEC two-stroke (enduro or pure street)... After all, this DI tech won the EPA's Clean Air Excellence Award (for its Evinrude outboards), something no four-stroke has ever won.....

You could get 2 stroke scooters up till just a few years ago. I wish Yamaha would come back out with a few bikes with modern tech. like RD350, TZ250, TZ750, and XS650...

Yamaha is still kicking a bit... Check out the new YZ250 trail model. Big piston fork, kickstand, heavy flywheel... Looks pretty good.

Thank you for the input guy's.
I will try to be more specific without going into details of my request, do any one know where I can find supporting documents about the restrictions in relation to motorcycles?
I need to present some official documents for a hearing, or whatever evidence about 2 stroke pollution, not necessary motorcycles, but this would be a good example.

Word has it that VW is going to start bringing MZ two strokes back into the US, as they have figured out how to make them pass emissions....oh, wait a minute...

I would think if the DMV registered it, and it is titled as a streetbike, and everything was done legitimately, not falsely, then the liability is on them. Sorry, can't help with documentation though.

I would try the two stroke forums.

EPA would likely be your best bet. Also look at the Southwest Research Institute as they did some emissions work for snowmobile manufacturers (over 10 years ago), work which eventually led to EPA emissions for sleds. Keep in mind, however, that much of the existing documentation pertains mostly to carbureted two-strokes and that any of the modern semi or direct injection engines are lights years ahead in terms of emissions...

if you can elaborate on exactly what it is you need perhaps I can be of further assistance, having dabbled in this stuff before.....
