tires

howdy, Im gettin my 98 hawk ready for summer.(pics later) Whats the best tire/ best price out there? Ive seen the continental road attack package deal for bout 220, thats sounds like a good deal. However, the tread pattern seems like it would look really cool when on the bike, but it kinda dont. A guy on my street has them on his f4. Any and all input is appreciated.

The Road Attacks have gotten rave reviews everywhere. If aesthetics are of utmost importance to you, perhaps you should trade the VTR in on a Harley, lol

michellin pilot powers seem to be a popular choice with sh riders. I've got a set of CT2's myself.

Just checked, cause my buddy mentioned it the other day to me...You can get Michelin Pilot powers for about $262 shipped from RonAyers.com in the SH size. Thats a pretty good deal for a hell of a tire. I went cheaper than that on the set I just bought and got a set of Maxxis Supermax's for about $190 from Tires Unlimited. With shipping it came to about $217. I have been quite pleased with them on my Turbo'd Bandit. They stand up to the power quite well, and have good grip. So far so good on the SH too, though I can't speak to ultimate wet weather traction on them...I don't commute a ton in the rain the way my buddy does. He says the Michelins are the way to go in the rain.

The new Pilot Road II's are supposed to be a good tire too. I guess it all depends on what you are looking for (track, high perf, sport-touring,...)

Go with the Michelin Pilot Powers. I got a set for $239 delivered. They are awesome. Everything else pales.

I have Dunlop Qualifiers and I have been very happy with them. They performed very well at the track last weekend too!

I guess if you don't do a lot of high-mileage riding or you can afford to replace them every 3000 miles (or less) they may be.....

You're right! I'm going PP this season. Then we'll see! I put the Diablo Stradas on the VFR after I bought it (Bling's reco on that one) and they have been very good. A little cold-blooded but a rock solid tire. I've put 2k on the bike since I bought it and they still look new.

I am and it works great. Allthough the ones I have now wear a bit too fast, but then again it's WSS class Q-tires. Not something you find on any track, but they sure are grippy enough.
Other tires I've been using have lasted about 5-6000 km. What's that in miles?
3000 - 4000? something like that.

Thumbs up

I've been riding several types of Michelins for a while now (years), and I like them very much. They mount easily (if you do your own), and you can usually find a deal on them (even for take-offs). They all stick reasonably well (or better), they handle very "neutrally", warm up quickly, and wear like iron (especially the sport touring models).
One of the scooter rags had a test on them earlier this year, where they compared each style of Pilot tire (Roads vs. Powers vs. Power Race vs. Power Race 2CT), it's a good read, and will help you in your quest.
Here in Nevada several shops have advertised $209 for a set of Pilot Powers (180rr/120fr)...they'll also sub Pilot Roads if you want. The local shop manager put them on for free at Christmastime. I put on a Power front & Road rear, replacing race take-off Power Races.

Now my "Michelin ad" is done, I'd probably try Pirellis for that price. Any decent tire under $200 is a deal in my book.

I've got a set of Pilot Power CT2's and love them. I have way more grip than with the old crappy factory tires. I would definatly go with them again as long as they last me at least 5000 miles or so.

I'll be there when the doors open. I'm actually buying them for the CBR.
It is close to needing new shoes and the SH has a few miles to go yet.

Doug if they run out just have them special order them for you. As long as you pay for them on Saturday the price still applies. That's what our store is doing. Oh BTW your triples shipped yesterday if you want the tracking # let me know.

My local CG hooked me up a little early so I could make a planned ride with new rubber. Report on the Pirelli Diablos so far is is solid thumbs up, especially considering the price. I know there are better tires out there, but I def won't have buyers remorse or credit card bill coming in the mail with these. Also, anything beats 8.5 year old D204's. I was chomping at the bit to test the VTR but had to be patient. + * =

My only problem with the M1s was thay wore out fast on my Katana 600... still, at 90 bucks, you can't go wrong... fine for the street.
