Question about the tail light mounting!!!!

Is it supposed to be mounted directly to the tail section itself?
Meaning, the only thing holding it in place are those two stupid little tabs?? (which are broken on my bike)... What a brilliant design!

Have any of you figured out a good solid "FIX" or reinforcment for the stock mounting tabs?

and if one of you guys has a spare tail section laying around, would you be willing to take a photo of what the tabs are supposed to look like? Mine are completely gone.
