anyone think about those multi octane petrol dispensers. you know one nozzle to dispense all those octanes.85-87-89-91. well i wonder how much of that 85 is in the line when or whatever the one before you dispensed. i always look for dedicated super lines. one for each octane. am i wasting my time

Don't take this amiss, but IMHO yes you are. Even with Superduperhawk's measly tank capacity, a cup or two of 85 octane is not going to bring you down.

your wasting your time since 87 >>>> 93 in terms of the power in each. Our motors aren't high enough compression to require 93. And well even f4i's at 12:1 say you need to use at least 86 octane. I've run 87 for a long time now and not 1 issue

Yeah, it can matter for your highly-tuned turbocharged car, but you don't need to worry about it for the Shawk.

Just run 87... Unless you have advanced the timing or raised the compression.

In fact, running high octane actually results in a LOSS of hp. Just run 87, it's cheaper and generates more power (a real win-win)

it took me a while to get back to this. the label located under the seat right forward of the tool stash recommends the use of 91 yet the manual states "86 or above" hmmm. glad you guys are here

I ran 91 for a few weeks on a friend's recommendation. For a week now, I've switched back to 87, and not only does my bike feel stronger, and my wallet heavier, but I have my libido back and all the girls can't keep their hands off me.

I put 87 in my baby. However, I always wonder whats coming out of those multi pumps. It must be regulated... right?

I always figured they had some kind of drawback system when the pump was shut off.

I've found I get an additional 20 miles distance with 91 versus 87 octane, and have snappier response above 90 mph, but then again, I've leaned out my jets and am at an altitude of 6000 ft.
Theoretically, I should be able to use a -lower- octane but for some reason, my gas milage suffers and the bike feels sluggish with 87. Then again, I notice a severe difference between 5W and 20W oils to the point of maddness. I must be hyper-sensitive.

"90 mph" you must be at the track right thanks for ringing in. i would still like to how much is left in the line on those multi dispensers. i like to think i am getting what i pay for at the pump. maybe the department of scales and measures will know? i havent tried 87 yet. but will.

do you feel a spring in your step, and are you the envy of the neighborhood? Can I get a sample pack of that?? or should I just start using 89 again? Hmm points to ponder

This question was asked in Cycle World's tech section once, I know I have the issue somewhere and will try to find it. I believe it was a pretty insignificant amount like a 16th of a gallon or something like that. Oh and I used high test before and switched, enjoy the savings.

There you have it folks, consider this thread beaten, bound, dead, and buried...LOL...J/K

So what if you use 87 but add an octane boost to the tank? Hmm, could we open yet another can of worms?? LOL
