SuperMoto on the Gap ROCKS
SuperMoto on the Gap ROCKS
Ok so i finally converted my 4 year old CRF450R to the street and took her to the gap last weekend. Damn these SM bikes rule the Gap, you can't even begin to touch an SM on that rode with a Sportbike.
If you guys have never tried one and have access to a friends SM you got to give it a whirl.
Backroads and twisties are their domain......

Thanks, that was in the corner formerlyt known as Shade Tree corner, of course the tree fell last year and now its all sun.
I was able to get the knee down in this turn for about 20 feet. It was such a blast. I took the SuperChicken back the next day and i have to admit i have been there many many times on the SuperChicken and compared to the SuperMoto the SuperChicken is like riding in slow motion.

I saw both when i was there. I almost took my Dirt Bike Boots instead of my other boots so i could try putting my foot out like i do when riding on the dirt, but i decided to try it the normal way. Seems more comfortable to me, but i will be trying that way next time.
Ha! I thought the question that prompted this reply was a joke, a rhetorical question. Go figure. I can't imagine that riding foot-out on the street is the best idea, but I guess you ride the way you're comfortable. I dunno. Seems to me that at least 90% of the time, when street riding, any sliding is fairly predictable and manageable. Plus the speeds are generally a lot higher than on dirt. Oh well. Whatever gets you wet.
I would be the SM or the new larger SM and hypermotards coming out are very fun bike. I don't know how many saw this picture before of Xaus on the new ducati HM. I am still just amazed at the confidence and skill displayed
I tried working on the Backing it in the turn skills while i was up there on the gap and got it to work a couple of times, but that is just not the place to learn, Make a mistake and you might end up dirt bike riding down the mountain cliff.
Actually i found it easier to put my knee down on the lighter and more nimble SM than on my heavier SuperHawk. Go Figure.....
Too much fun.....
Oh i re-geared her too and now when i go back to Barber in Sept. I should be able to get down the front striaght with out banging the rev limiter.
She should do about 110 mph. I have already had her up to 95 and still had revs left to go.
Cruises pretty good at 60 mph
How ya doing Rooster, Yea same bike as what i had at Barber, except i now have my own wheels and have installed a lighting system an got her street legal...
Too much fun.....

I am telling you for a short distance ride in the mountains and twisties, the SM can't be beat, but now for a full day of riding say 300 plus miles i am not sure the SM is the way to go,. If i lived as close the gap and skyway as you do i would probably sell the SuperChicken and jkust ride the SM all the time.
The Suzuki SM is a nice bike, but that damn stock pipe would have to go.
SV650S is another sweet ride.
