Superhawk and TL1000R
alright, i am going to look at a 1999 Suzuki TL1000R today because my dad is really missing the VTR. i was wondering if you guys new anything about the tl1000r that are compariable to the SH aka problems they can have or aomething besides its a liter V-twin thanks in advance guys

Bad ergos, unless you're into the GSXR tuck. Fuel injection is mapped poorly, it's like an on\off switch in a few spots, instead of being smooth. rotary damper from hell.
Wants to spit you off and hurt you if you give it half a chance....... not at all like a SH. YMMV

just watch the Shakey Byrne video of the 916, VTR, TL and see how the TL likes to push wide in the corners - one of the riders makes reference to it.

I had an 03 TLR for 6 months. It was good enough to make me fall in love with the power delivery of a twin but it felt like I was riding a pig. I bought the SH a couple months after I sold the TL and like the SH much better plus its a Honda. Power is about the same, and both bikes even make the same little pops and occasional hiccups. Did you consider a SV1000?

ya i have considered but none around here at all except for 1 that has front end damage for 2,000 bucks. i guess the front end damage is just messed up fairings but my buddy wants to get it and thanks to you all im not considering the tiller anymore. just to bulky and ill probably get some inverted forks for the sh soon

my brother has a tlr, i have a 97 tls, and a 98 tlr. the tlr is quite a bit more powerful than a vtr. should be approx 15-20 more at the wheel. i usually have seen 115-120 stock. they are a little heavier, and the power delivery is different. not as wheelie happy. the tls feels just like a vtr power wise, just stronger. that whole tlr going wide is complete b.s. it all depends on riding style. also, the rotary damper is good for the avg rider. rossi could complain about it, but i really doubt you level of skill and riding ability is to the point where it is going to cost you time on the street, if so, then who cares. you are on the street. very nice bikes, but they are big. between the vtr, tls, and tlr, they all have their own character. the tls is a brute, the vtr feels very small and is a fun overall bike. the tlr is a smooth revving v twin bike that holds a good corner, and has a damn strong top end rush. it is very easy to make it lose 15 pounds also on that bike. out of all 3 bikes, my vtr is still the favorite of mine.

Yeah, on the bulk point: in my opinion, if you're going to have something as bulky as the TLR, get an I4.
Reliability issues: the Suzuki agency around from our shop still gets lots of the 1-litre Suzuki Vs in for warranty work. The Honda shop and VTRs/XL1000Vs = none.
Power: yep, when going well, the Suzukis are much better than the VTR. But so what? Want power? - get an I4.

I only know of one common problem with the TL's that I have heard and it's that the rear suspension has problems, more specifically the mounts can crack... Oh, also a very user-unfriendly power delivery.
And just WHO on a Superhawk forum is gonna utter a bad word against their own bike?

i neer asked anyoen to bash on the superhawk... because we all know its a "perfect" bike with some pimples... i was just wondering if a tl was versimilar but as soon as i sat on that tl i hated it... made me feel like i was getting ready to give birth due to the large tank. i am going to take an idea from him and get a gel seat though. after looking at it alot the tl is a vtwin busa and i dont like the way busas look. i just need to make my bike handle better even though right now its not bad, or find an RC-51 haha vtwins rock *cheers*

once again, the tlr is heavier, because it is more sturdy, as it was meant for racing. as far as them being unfriendly, that is not the case either. they are just more powerful. i look at two strokes as being unfriendly, not the tl's. i am not sure why they are so damn wide though, that is one of the vtr's best assets. it feels like a 650 compared to them. the rear end on them is more than sufficent for street riding though. at least i think so. for the track, you might want to upgrade. it would depend on rider ability.

I had a TLS untill she was killed by a girl talking on the phone and doing make-up at the same time.
There were no other V-twin sport bikes I was interested. I didn't want a SV1000.
The VTR has way less power, but handles way better than the TL.
You can't beat the smooth power delivery of a VTR.
Even the SV1000's power delivery sucks and still steers like a truck.

of course she doesnt have a license she didnt know how to turnit on. i was waiting for it to be in gear and it would lurch foward and fall over haha. and for some reason... maybe its the camera... that dry clutch seemed louder than any other ive seen and i rode next to a ducati 900 today haha and guess what guys he likes the superhawks bettttttter

)anyways here is my opinion having both bikes to ride at the same time:
tlr1000-supierior high speed handling,will outhandle the hawk anyday above 60mph,MUCH,MUCH more high speed stability,power is not very far off from my hawk,imho,more of a track bike,will cramp you up trying to go on any kind of long ride,engine is reliable,but is louder than the hawk,more ticking noises,but no cct to worries,the starter soliniod and electrical system sucks on these bikes,the fuel inj system sucks,no matter when maping we put on it,it starts harder and power delivery is not as smooth as the hawk,low speed handling 50 mph and below sucks,the heavy pig that it is it will get "tippy".much more of a following though,more parts avalible,more respect,exhaust sounds better.shifts much better and smoother.
superhawk-more streetable,comforatable,more reliable(except for ccts that are an easy cheap fix)i trust it more than the tl in reliability,parts are getting harder to come by though,superhawk has a crappy kickstand,will sink into grass/soft asphalt too easy,i personally think this is a great bike,would be happier in the end unless you spend most of your time above 120mph.shifts rough and clanky.
