The Superhawk Chasing a Rider Up Bear Creek Canyon - Onboard Video
Yesterday I parked the VTR at the entrance to Bear Creek Canyon (West of Denver) to connect the camcorder. The plan was to test minimizing vibration and try a polarizing filter. I typically wait until I'm sure there's no traffic up ahead so I can have a spirited ride while recording. Just as I pull out a rider in full race gear on a hot F4i comes flying around a distant curve towards me. A perfect bike for this canyon. I debate whether to accelerate ahead and hit the first curve first or let him pass. But since videos are typically better following someone I let him pass, and the spirited ride was on!
This is a 15-25 mph (Posted) canyon, with some 30mph stuff here and there. Between Idledale and Kittridge (See map below) it opens up for a mile or two before resuming the curves. Will note the slowing ride through Idledale and then the canyon opening briefly in the video.
This F4i inline four occasionally leaves me in the straights (But is reeled in on the curves
), and my defensive excuse is the camcorder recording the action has a honkin big battery on the back tending to pull the back of the camcorder down under hard acceleration, so during this ride I'm glancing at the cam LCD screen making sure things are still pointed forward and not up, and managing the rate of acceleration -- being smooth as possible.
This camcorder is excellent at minimizing wind noise. The exhaust note is glorious. If you have a subwoofer connected to the PC, this is a treat, and is without actually. Two versions of the onboard ride video...

At the entrance to the canyon are these signs...

And if interested in the location of this canyon, here's the map. The recording is from Morrison to near Kittredge. In Kittredge I'm able to get the rider's attention to pull over and I point to the video camera. Video links emailed to him.

Sgt Rock... Connected a MiniDV camcorder using a mount from Sportbikecam.com. Was fairly pleased with the results despite the active ride. Gonna ditch the polarizing filter for the moire pattern it created on the screen. Will just let the video editing software improve the colors.
This canyon is just west of Denver. I captured from Delorme Topo Maps a screen of the area, pasted into Paint, cropped the edges, then saved as a JPG.
Still enjoy watching the vid, if just for the SH music. Will for a long time. Anyone note the poor line I took at 1:35? Rocks in the middle of a curve had me going inside and I bogged down.
