Storz Damper

Storz Damper
Hi all, I bought a Storz damper off of the classifieds not too long ago and finally got around to installing it. I see that the mounting requires the installer to drill four holes in the frame to pop rivet the mount on. Any experience with this? I'm just a little apprehensive with drilling the frame. Any thoughts on the system?

+1 I have seen several bikes with this setup, beside the drilling into the frame I didn't like, there is additional problem with this, the rivets get loose very quickly and the bracket shifts and moves scratching the frame as well as making the holes larger.

And that's the experience I am looking for! Thanks for the input. Do you have any suggestions for alternate mounting?

I don't know how far on the frame that bracket is extended, but I would probably make another Aluminum bracket that mounts to the radiator mounting points with a bit longer bolts and install the radiator on top of the plate.

I agree that Scott's are better. But they are out of the price range and with my bar set up they won't fit. Just so I am understanding you correctly, you are saying go with aluminum so if it come loose it won't mar up the frame as bad?

No I didn't mean that. I would use aluminum and not use angle iron on my bike. Leary of this. If it comes loose or otherwise gets caught up and jams while riding you most likely will crash the bike. Please be extremely careful with this.

(Doctor Evil) "Riiiiiigght" please be careful. You've put a lot of work in to this bike and if something goes wrong at the wrong time and place it can definately kill you. Is it adjustable? Maybe ride for awhile and study this some more.

The damper is adjustable, and I will have it on the lowest setting. I know I don't need one for the street, but I want to have the set up for a track day. I value your input, so thank you for your concern. Do you know of a "better" way than what shindy/Daytona dampers use from their manufacture?

No holes in the triple clamp required. And no local racers that I know of. I think I will go head and make the radiator mount to mimic
Then test lock to lock and ensure no loose fittings, interference, or anything to give me an uneasy feeling. There is this option too found it here: https://www.superhawkforum.com/forum...ocation-27352/

Looks like I'm back to trying to sell or trade it. I do not have the desire to put the effort into making a mount/ clearance for it and only be able to ride it for a new weeks. So for anyone looking to score a damper that needs a little work to mount here you go: https://www.superhawkforum.com/forum...-damper-30817/
