specifics on Deal's Gap weekend

Thought I'd do a little checking so as to help me/us plan...

Here is a cut/paste from the calendar at Tailofthedragon.com:

June 7-10 Second Annual Motorcycle-Journal.com
June 7-10 StreetStangs.net will be at the Dragon
June 7-10 Suzuki GS - GSResources.com - 4th Annual Southeastern Rally
June 8-10 2007 Deal's Gap FZ1 Rally C
June 8-10 4th Annual National SV Rally at the Gap
June 8-10 Suburu Alcyone Dragon Meet - Suburu's forgotten sports car.

I e-mailed them and asked them to add our shin-dig for June 8-9-10.

I then went poking around....
I could find nothing about FZ or Mustang doings, and didn't really look at the others.

The SV group looks to be pretty good sized. They have group rides set for both Friday and Saturday. I expect there will be a few there doing the real sport riding thing.

I was wondering what our plans are. I know there was discussion some time back in one of the other threads about group rides, but am not sure if anything firm was set.

A few ideas and thoughts from my pea brain....

If all goes as I hope, I'll be there Friday morning, and should be ready to ride by mid-morn. I plan to go straight to the store at Deal's Gap.

I'll probably hang around The Gap / Hiway 28 on Friday, or at least be there Friday afternoon, as that will likely be the best time to get some good runs in.

Saturday maybe do the 28/143/Cherohala to Tellico Plains for a snack and then back around to Deal's Gap.

I do think we need to pick a time to try and get everybody together for a group pic. Maybe the overlook or down in front of Fontana Dam?

What do you guys think?

Greg, are you going to be the master planner and conveyer of times and places?

Are we eating dinner at CROT restaurant Friday night?
Somewhere else?

I think there are only 6 or 7 of us planning to be there. Is that correct?
If so, logistics should not be too difficult.
(I attended the R1 Rally in 05 and it was a real big to-do. Almost too much for me.)

Maybe Sgt. Rock can do some good chase videos.

I am not sure yet what time on Fri I will get there...I am coming over from Suches, GA....I may tag along with another group heading to the Gap, but then will hook up with whoever is there, or around...Have to get checked in to the cabin to stowe the gear, then will be ready to ride...
hmmm..I have got to locate a truck and trailer, it is hurting my brain thinking about all those miles I will be burning good rubber flat tracking with luggage...

Well, I have a 13 or so hour drive. I'll be there "sometime" on Friday. Will check in directly to Punkin to unload the bikes. I'll be taking the RR as a backup. I will be the so-called coordinator, but since there are so few of us I'll be handing out maps, etc. and being a photographer more than anything. We are of course open to change on any of this and if you guys just want to ride the Dragon all day Sunday that's fine with me. Nothing's written in stone. I'll do the ride either way since I'm staying a few extra days. No use driving that far just for a weekend. I actually have no lodging plans for after the rally either, much to my personal lack of planning, and hope that doesn't backfire on me.

Dinner at CROT sounds fine to me unless you want something other than burgers and stuff.

Yeah the SV rally is pretty good sized. I was up there for it last year with a friend even won the grand prize of a one piece Kobe Suit.

Good group of guys.

Might be, but I'm right behind you at 45.

As they say.....

The jury is still out from my perspective.

Virginia Beach to Robbinsville, NC is about 500 miles.
From there go straight north on US 129.
Deal's Gap is about 20 mins from Robbinsville up 129.

Plenty of maps available online at tailofthedragon.com or dealsgap.com.

At least I'm on the lower end at 29 but what I have done in that time surprises me. Just don't have a thing to show for it.

You all are going to have to let us all know how this thing turns out. I wish I could make it this year. If you do it again in '08 i'll be there for sure.
