Snow flattens new tire(!)
Snow flattens new tire(!)
So one unexpected and unwelcomed effect of riding after a snowstorm, in addition to all the dirt and black ice, is the sharp debris all over. Checked pressure last night & it was fine. Went for short ride & parked the bike.
Today, I notice its amost tipped over since my BRAND NEW rear bridgestone is flat. Found a 16 common 2 headed nail in it. (which is awesome).
It punctured the carcass and came out the sidewall, scratching the rim. It literally seems impossible, but I think its way less likely that someone went and pounded it in like that.
Well I plugged both holes, and bought the appropriate mushroom plugs to remove the tire and patch from inside. (which should be a treat).
This same thing happened to my last new rear tire. Not a nail but a puncture.

Actualy I patched the sidewall and ran the heck out it for thousands of miles. I just kept my eye on it. I think alot of the hype on plugs stems from the tire industry in an "apply, lather rinse repeat scheme.
The last bridgestone, patched on the sidewall when new, went for years and the whole life of the tire with the same patch. 2k mile trip on it too.

Joe, that reminds me the days of NYC. I had a rear Metzler tire that I patched believe it or not 11 times with inner plugs and used it in NYC for few years with no issues with the plugs, call it crazy, but I got tired of replacing tires at one point, so I had a set of different size plugs and used it every few months on average, also for some reason got half of the nails/screws and bolts on the BQE. Man, just move out of this place, there are so many other better places to live and ride, just ask our brothers here.
Yeah, thats whay I am saying, anyone who is scared of plugs is just too much of a wimp to do the impiracle research to learn how safe they are.
The BQE (Brooklyn-Queens Expressway) is like a missle testing site.
One moto mag tried riding it and said something like "This road is NOT navigable by motorcycle and no one should attempt or even consider riding it". This is really a good asessment. Of course I ride it day & night, but I am not a good example.

Do you know the unprecidented spike in revanue the day after they added that to the bottle? Its a model that many industries use.
The other comparison I like is Vegas. You see those huge, lavish fountains, luxurious suites, huge electric bills. Who exactly do you think is paying for all that? Its YOU. Kinda like when you walk into a motorcycle dealer.
