Road Atlanta Track Day Report

Since my fund$ are limited yet I still needed to get my track day fix for the year I signed up for the intro class with Nesba . In the intro class , Nesba will give you 2 sessions for FREE ! (You can opt to pay for the rest of the day if you decide to after the 2 sessions) So for those of you that would like to get a taste of riding on a real track without having to spend the money this is a great opportunity . It has been 2 years since I have ridden RA , So I wasn't sure how some the changes I had made to the bike since then would perform there . My gearing was stock in 2007 . Now I am running 15/43 which turned out to be perfect ! I am now able to top it out in 6th instead of 5th & get there sooner . My jetting/air filter were stock in 2007 . Now I am running a K&N & Hawkriders recommended jetting , the bike ran flawlessly ! Now to my biggest concern ... I had just recently changed the rear tire to a Pilot Road 2 . I was worried that being a more of a touring tire that it may not grip as well as the Pilot Power 2ct . I have got to say...I am extremely impressed with this tire . It probably took a lap longer to heat up , but once it is ...It Sticks ! It didnt slip once ! I was getting my knee down pretty consistently with no issues . If anyone is concerned that you may lose some lean angle going with the Pilot Road 2 see the photo below . I am also proud to see how much my riding has improved in the last couple of years . The one photo is from 2007... I wasn't getting off the bike enough . The 2009 photo's ... I am moving around on the bike a carrying a lot more speed throughout the whole track ! Needless to say I had a blast ! BTW , I took advantage of another perk Nesba/Yamaha offers . You can sign up to ride a 2009 Yamaha R6 ,R1 , FZ1 or FZ6 . I chose the R6 . I have to say its a very potent little bike ! It pulls better than I expected and handles like its on rails ( which I did expect ) It would make a great track day bike , but I wouldnt want to ride one everyday . What a great day ! I rode three 20 minute track sessions & got to ride a 2009 R6 on the track ( I had more fun than I usually do riding the street all day !) and all it cost me was a tank of gas to get there and back . Now I have gotta go see what I have lying around to sell on Ebay so I can go back in August .

Sounds like a ton of fun. I'm going to have to try a trackday this summer on the hawk!

Sweeet. I must have missed this thread. I was looking for you in the lineup Saturday but never saw you. Would have made a good comparison of the twins.
