That is so awesome! But can you add coolant without drama? I still want to put it under the bodywork to keep it in sight, but this is definitely on my to do list.

Can you remind me what is on the stock tank? How many nipples and do they need to be top or bottom? As I recal it has them one top and one bottom.

As for filling it, once it is pushed back the 3/4"-1", you can fill it when the tank is up. Otherwise, just remove one easily accessible screw and you can pull the coolant bottle out, do what you need to, and then screw it back in.

Since I've owned my bike, I have checked the level many times, but have never needed to top it off. So, I see this as not that big of deal. As Jerry stated, checking the fluid level is easy. Just bend your knees and take a look.

I know this Traxxas part and attaching it underneath the airbox is not as simple as Lloydie's HRC bottle, but it is another option we have now. Cost? $16 for the Traxxas fuel tank, a couple bucks for a chunk of aluminum for the bracket, and a couple bucks for new lines (also need a reducer, since the coolant expansion line is a larger diameter than the nipple on the Traxxas fuel tank).

#1 is the where the coolant expansion line attaches.
#2 is the vent/overflow

Ok so the replacement bottle just needs a nipple at the bottom submerged in coolant right?

I have a plastic bottle I think will work or I can get one of crux's 3 ebay items. Not much in the way of hobby shops around me.

I have a more basic question: What's the simplest way to remove the stock overflow tank from between the cylinders?

Is there ever a need to fill it? If so would we need to remove it from the mount, or just pivot it off to the side to access the cap? Just thinking out loud.

I applaud you for going down this road. Can't wait to get this all figured out with all the different mounting options so I can move mine.

*Any more mounting location ideas?

**Any more specifics on the HRC bottle mounting location and mounts?

Thanks for all you're doing!
James

No easy way to remove the standard bottle .
Tank/airbox/carbs/thomostat out and then maybe a few coolant pipes then a bolt and giggle it out

No problem man.

To fill this Traxxas part, you can just lower it by removing one screw.

As for more mounting location ideas, you can install a coolant bottle inside the black ram air duct thingy on the inside of our fairings. That might work.

Here's a picture of it all hooked up. I never got around to making a longer bracket yet. I have to buy some different lines. Right now it's hooked up with plain 'ol vaccuum lines.

So Crux, reckon you can change the main jets with the bottle out of the way? I have a RH screwdriver which would help.

Obviously put a rag over the V to catch dropped bits?

Haven't tried it yet myself, but yes, I don't see why this wouldn't make changing jets that much easier.

Just an update.

The Traxxis fuel tank works fantastic. No problems in 450 miles.

I filled the Traxxis fuel tank half full and installed it. Been running that way ever since.

So, it works and it's not expensive.

Thanks for the update. When I saw fuel tank I thought you meant an actual fuel tank, not fuel-tank-used-as-coolant-overflow-bottle.

Still want to do this.

Ordered one from U.K flea bay today.

Looks the goods.

As I have an electric water pump,I am thinking of taking the thermo housing etc out of the picture.

I intend to get a pipe fabricated allowing the temp sender to be retained and open up the V in the bike.

Just another thing to fool people! Into thinking that I am a Sunday morning Latte sipping cowboy!!

Will post pics when I do it.

I'm seriously thinking about using an 8oz rectangular Nalgene bottle mounted up by the headlight on the fairing stay (like the rc51 racebikes i've seen). Anyone see any problem with doing that? Seems like if they can mount them above the radiator height, then we can too, correct?

Hey kenmoore... We should start another thread on removing the thermostat housing. I'm very interested in that mod too...

I feel like doing an Indian War Whoop!!!!!

I removed this thing this morning... (Looks like it's on to the For Sale section)

Anyone have the HRC part number on the coolant bottle? I want to look it up at my local dealer.

Wow, you had to take a lot of parts off to get the bottle out......

LOL..... Yes, it was imperative the forks come of to get to the bottle. The front wheel and brake calipers were in the way.

Just kidding of course

I'm in the middle of removing the frame for powdercoating.

I have wondered why they made the coolant bottle so dang big, when only a few ounce container would suffice.

James, I have seen the HRC part number posted here or possibly in the UK forum.

Starting to want to do this myself. Found a bottle. I may leave the stock one in to start with in case it doesnt work out.

But with a twist, I will mount a second one above it as an oil breather tank.

So instead of venting the crankcase to the bottom of the engine with an open hose, you would vent to a second catch can?

So after about 20 minutes of searching i found the HRC part numbers, just in case someone else needs them:

HRC coolant catch can (reservoir) 250ml (8oz): 19602-NF4-810
HRC zip ties: 90651-NC8-000
HRC vinyl tubing (6x9x800): 95003-14080-10

Any Honda dealer should be able to order this stuff for you. Catch can should run about $10.

*I got my part numbers from here: http://world.honda.com/HRC/products/partslist/

At track RPMs she puts out a bit of oil to the airbox. I ran it for a bit without the bottle in the airbox and it made a bit of a mess. So I want to set it up to a small tanks to catch the oil and drain it back to the motor. And vent to air.

I want the bottle out of the airbox.

My bike spits a bit into the bottle when I get up it.

Small price to pay for the fun to be had.

Seems to be more common when the weather is hot!

I have done my version of this mod now and have been running it for a week. No problems at all. And its hot here currently.

I just did a main jet change. Through the frame, carbs were left in place. Took 15mins and a lot of that was working out how to get myself in the right angle to get to the screws. Next time will be about 10 mins for a main jet change.
