Project Superhawk Dragbike

And you thought VTR's were only made to go around corners...........

well i come from drag racing bikes so you can say what you want....this is just my idea of trying to put a hurtin on some people in a v-twin class. we'll see how it goes, still waiting for some more parts when the budget allows, which will include wet NOS kit, air shifter, shift light and couple other small things but for now, the hard part is done....let me know whacha think.

yea but still have to understand the speed limit is just about 25-45mph no matter where you go and these island cops LOVE just sit around all day hiding. there is an interstate with 60mph zone that is about 4 miles long...thats it, everything else is just SLOW...

thanks for compliments on the rims, i love em

I normally hate seeing a stretched bike b/c they rarely ever see the drag strip! Since you are actually going to race this thing I give ya a big thumbs up

Post up some action shots when you start racing it..

Ok... It looks ridiculous, it is stupid in corners and I'd like to kick your *** for doing that to a poor helpless bike...

But if it's actually going to a drag strip... Then I like it... It should be able to kick the big boys in the nuts... It's fast off the line stock, but throws up the front... With the list of plans it should be a monster...

A side note though... When doing that swingarm I'd imagine it's more of a necessity to swap out the rear bouncer for an adjustable one of good quality than an option... Get an Öhlins or similar in there asap...

+1... if it's going to the track, looks great.

why did you raise the fork tubes vs. use a strap w/ fork brace ?

thanks for all the comments, i didnt use a strap yet, cause our caliper bolts are recessed. going to work something out with that though, that is just as far as i got on day one in the garage. have a alot of other small things to wrap up. hopefully the local track here that they closed in 06 has plans of re-opening. if not guess i'll have to take a mini vacation and send the bike over to the next island to get some passes in at Maui....

Nice dude. I like the look of it. Its actually really clean looking, especially with those rims. Hit me up sometime, Im stationed on K-Bay. Id love to see this thing in person. I too am waiting for the track to reopen for the Auto-x.

About the highway and twisties.....very true, the cops here are vultures.

I would do some research before fitting NOS to the VTR. They are not known for strong crankshafts, so going over 130hp is starting to risk things a bit. A billet crank will fix the problem but cost lots of $$$$$$ if you can find one.

thanks, i only plan on a 50hp shot, only to compinsate for a muffed start whether its breaks the tire loose or jumps high, just to get that quick shot to get back into my bracket number..i dont on planning the juice every pass, just there for the make up if need be for a quick second. its hard to play this game, but i have been very good in the past. just need a track here and its on

Looks like fun to me. If you want a VTR for ripping around corners, you can always buy a second one.

I've always wondered what an otherwise essentially stock VTR would do in the quarter with a swing arm long enough to keep the front wheel down. If you find out, let us know.

you know, i dont know, i just realized it now that you pointed it out. first time i had the tailsection off. it looks like the rubber strap holding it is factory though....i'll let you know where the wires go to. the RR is just infront of it though...i'll let you know tom when i put on my new exhaust.

That's just one of the two electronics boxes in the Hawk... On the earlier model (which Jamie has?) they reside at the back in the middle and on the newer they are one on each side of the subframe...

I also have the older type, and I made them both fit on the outside of my subframe on the other side when I installed a Mototeck tail as they are then no longer held in place in the stock location...

RCVTR is an unknown quantity at this point
Looks good.

I don't think the swingarm mod is as stiff as you will want it to be. That unsupported tubing will be pretty flexible. I suggest welding a full length 1/4'' (or so) aluminum plate between the top of the swingarm and the tubing. It would make it dramatically stiffer. With that much swingarm length, I think you'll need it.

Good luck!

I was actually thinking the same, I was looking at the pictures and had to scroll up to check and found that I was seeing straight... No support at all along the side... Atleast a spar at around half of the open part to stiffen it up would probably be a good idea...
