Damn, that sucks. Hope they will rebuild.
Saw the smoke plume Yesterday, looked like someone dropped a nuclear bomb on ACH. The smoke had to be at least 20,000 feet high. Imagine how bad it would be if it were windy.

NOOOOO!!!
My wife was just on SuperTopo, a climbing forum, and saw a thread saying that Newcomb's had burned. We were just up there on June 23, riding from Wrightwood to Newcomb's and back, and planning to return after the weather cooled down.
For those who don't know, Newcomb's Ranch is a restaurant/bar in the pines on Angeles Crest Highway 6,000 feet above the Los Angeles basin, and an iconic stop for motorcyclists, mainly sportbikers, for decades.
What a loss.
finepooch, you forgot gays and Hollywood Liberals.

According to Newcomb's website the Inn and restaurant/bar was built in 1939 after the property had been in the possession of the Newcomb family since 1888. It was mostly destroyed by fire in 1976 and rebuilt. So hopefully Newcomb's will rise again. Some reports say some of the asphalt has melted on the Crest, so it may be quite a while before it opens again.
By the way, the entire East end (30+ miles) of Angeles Crest Highway had been closed from 2004 until just last May due to a major slide. So don't cross your fingers about riding it anytime soon.
